Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
So I posted awhile back when I bought the Zeno machine.  I just returned it as it didn't work at all for me.  Actually made my skin worse :(.  Apparently the same effect of the machine can be acheived by alternating hot washcloths.  Really not worth the $200 IMHO.  I was really hoping it would work :(.  Figured I would let you all know.

Some questions:

1) I just bought christian dior forever pressed powder which I really like so far.  Anyone else ever tried it?
2) I have very acne prone skin.  I've also been using neutrogena skin clearing foundation underneath the dior powder.  Any better skin clearing foundations out there?
3) Also, after bleaching my hair to a mush it is finally starting to look a bit better.  Advice on cute hairstyles that require no heat styling for wavy/curly thick hair?  besides pigtails and scrunching it curly?  I don't want to go running back to my flat iron so soon!
4) Tips on how you get yourself to drink enough water each day when you don't like water? haha.  I usually just squeeze lemons in it or eat ice cubes.  Any other tips?  I really need to start drinking my water.
5) What kind of vitamins do you take and what are they for?
6) Favorite healthy snacks to carry around with you?
7) Tips on how to purge your wardrobe?  I find myself getting really attached to things like pajamas/band shirts, having drawers and drawers filled of them.  Unfortunately, corporate banking doesn't like me to wear pajamas to work so I need to make some room for my new big girl clothes.  I usually give a garbage bag of clothes to good will a month but for some reason my collection never seems to get smaller.
8) And not beauty related but, I just bought a new car last night...the Nissan Rogue in Black.  My birthday is coming up at the end of the month - any accessories I should look into?  Any cute things that will make the car my own?

That was a lot of questions but TIA! <3

I can help (maybe!) with some of them:

4) I started drinking a lot of Crystal Light, haha. Both the regular mixes and the kind you dissolve in a bottle of water. I love the Raspberry Ice and Fruit Punch.

5) I take a multi-vitamin plus iron from CVS.

6) Granola bars, pretzels, raisins.

7) No need to get rid of anything - just wear them on the weekends or around the house or out running errands. :)

8) I bought stuffed animals to put in my car. One on the dashboard and one behind the back seats. Helps me identify my car in lots.

* Try Clinique Anti-Blemish range - it feels wierd at first but after a week or so of purging, your skin is gorgeous. I would recommend that you use a different moisturiser though, I use Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel.

* Corporate Banking! That's what I do too :) I did a big chuck out when I moved from Sydney to London, just really went through anything that hadn't been worn in the last 6 weeks and gave it to charity or sold it on Ebay (if it was worth something). It was hard to do, but I just had to, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit my clothes in my suitcase.

* Try drinking flavoured water or green tea (as it contains no caffeine) instead of water.

Green tea actually does contain caffeine - not nearly as much as coffee, but still some. I second (or third, or +1 however many people have suggested it so far!) the flavored water idea; if you're getting bored with lemons, try limes or even oranges (or something else that's easily squeezable), but try to avoid anything with processed sugars (read: mixes, even like Crystan Light).

As far as skin clearing foundations go, I don't think you're looking in the right place to get rid of the problem. Foundation is a cosmetic, but to get rid of acne you're more than likely going to need to change your skincare routine to find something that works with your skin instead of against it. I've been blessed with pretty clear skin so unfortunately I can't offer much help in that area, but I have heard good things about Clinique's 3-Step Skincare line, so that might be something worth checking out.

Thanks! I just got the dramatically different moisturizing gel and ordered coalface from lush. I usually use witch hazel as a toner so hopefully things will get better. I only use the skin clearing foundation because I feel like it won't give me more acne? maybe I'm wrong though?

Skin clearing foundations sometimes contain harsh ingredients, like salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide, which can be a cause of irritation to your skin (especially if you use them in combination with an acne treatment cleanser and/or moisturizer). I think that your best bet would be to use a foundation that is designed for sensitive skin, rather than for acne-prone skin.

i actually just bought the moisturizing gel yesterday! it's really nice.

i'm thinking of selling a lot of it; since i really did pay a lot for some of the stuff and the rest i will give to charity

i think green tea has caffeine? i haven't been able to have caffeine for almost 4 years now.

Try those Crystal light flavor packs to put in the water. They have a few different flavors. My faves are the Strawberry and Orange. For the Lemonade I get the Wal-Mart brand since I'm not found of Crystal Light lemonade.

thanks! i've tried the raspberry lemonade one which i was pretty partial too. i don't like to use the whole packet though and then the rest of it gets hard for some reason...i guess from moisture in the air. oh well!

Oh one thing about those (I also recommended it in my other comment).. I bought the raspberry ice packets for water bottles... And when I drank it, my whole mouth turned BRIGHT red. I mean, my whole tongue was like magenta! It doesn't happen with the regular 2-qt powder mix, just the bottle packets! It looked like I ate a million Jolly Ranchers.

4) I drink Crystal Light decaf iced tea. It's amazing. I also drink grape Dasani water... it is so sweet! Both have no calories or carbs or caffeine. For the Crystal Light, I get the cylinder tubes and 1/2 tbsp out of the tub is perfect for a Nalgene bottle full (32oz).

5) I take One a Day Women's multivitamin. I like them because they have tons of calcium.

6) I love 100 calorie oreo granola bars and sliced apples.

8) If you have an iPod, I'd reccomend an Alpine deck with a full speed iPod attachment. Brand new, both cost me less than $200, and they're amazing. I also used to have a penguin on a spring on my dashboard, and he was so cute. I had to take him off when my car got totalled, and I can't find him anymore :(

1. I've only tried their loose powder, and it was just okay. Pretty average. I do like two of their foundations though (although I rarely wear liquid foundation). Check Makeupalley.com for reviews

2. I'd check into skin care before skin-clearing foundations.

3. Deep conditioner. What about a twist with a hair stick. Or pulling back the top part?

4. Flavor the water with other fruits, use a teeny bit of Kool Aid. Drink tea. I drink so much tea it's ridiculous (there's a Teavana store opening near me and while it's not Tea Source, I still look at their little flyers like it's porn - it's a joke at my work that I'm going to sit outside waiting for them to open. Some teas are free of caffeine, but read labels - some have as much as coffee (typically Matcha). Also, try carrying a bottle of water around with you. That helps me drink more. I fill it up while I'm at university and find myself sipping it in class. I tell myself that I have to drink "x" number of bottles before I can grab a snack, etc.

5. I take a multi vitamin, a b complex (for energy. it also has biotin for hair, skin and nails), Potassium (px'd by my doctor b/c um, I'm really deficient so I don'thave to get potassium drips), Iron (px'd by my doctor b/c again, my health sucks), Omega 3 Fish Oil.

6. Kashi Tasty Little Chewy snack bars, a baggy of grapes, a baggy of carrots, water bottle. I portion things into little bags adn carry like, everything. I also bring yogurt to work and a little bag of Museli to add in.

7. Pull out anythingyou haven't worn in a few months and can't see yourself wearing.

8. I don't know you, so I can't suggest. I have a cd visor. I don't want to add too much junk to my car (just bought it about a month ago - Hyundai Accent Hatchback). The color on my car is unique so it's easy to find.

ugh i've had to get potassium drips before...so painful. i was hysterical the whole time. thanks for the tips! my sister has a cd visor but it got stretched out and now the cds pelt her in the head when she's driving! haha

yeah, I'm trying to avoid potassium drips in the future as much as possible - I eat my banannas, I take my pills ... and we'll see how it goes.

my cd visor is brand new, so we'll see how it goes. I have a little scent thing around my rear view mirror from Yankee, but that's about it. Except for a little alien thing which is so dumb, but it's a long story and I've had it in all of my other cars.

2. I second the comment about changing your skin care routine instead of foundation. I'm not sure what type of skin you have but, this is what worked for me to clear up my skin - gentle cleansers and moisturizing. It helps get your skin back in balance with itself. A lot of products strip the oil from your skin, so your body produces excess oil to make up for it.

4. Like everyone else said, go flavored. Lol. Crystal light, fresh fruit, and making yourself some iced tea are all good. I love doing iced tea because tea comes in tons of flavors and it's easy and cheap to do.

5. I take a women's multi vitamin, Calcium with extra D (I'm lactose intolerant, so I only take this on days when my intake through other products isn't up to par), B complex (it helps with metabolism, mood, and TONS of other things), biotin (for my hair, skin, and nails), and flax seed oil (for hair, skin, and your heart).

6. Nature Valley granola bars, pretzels, rice cakes with peanut butter, apple slices, sliced veggies.

7. If you haven't worn it in the past month or two, toss it. Try taking items to resale shops and Ebay to make some extra cash. Also, when shopping, if you see something that grabs your eye put it on hold or set it down. If you are still thinking about it the next day, then it will be worth the money. If you've forgotten, then you just saved yourself some cash.

4) Apparently you can drink fizzy water like Crystal Geyser and still get the alloted amount of water a day. I was a big fan of vitamin water for awhile too, the peach one is the best :D. But the best way to get yourself to drink water is to get a Nalgene bottle and carry it with you. The bugger is so heavy you'll want to drink it as fast as possible XD.

6) I love Sun Chips, crunchy Nature Valley granola bars, pretzels, celery and peanut butter, Goldfish, and nuts. Now that I look at the list it sounds like the snacks that I give to to kids I babysit.

7) If you have things you don't want anymore take them over to a resale shop or consignment store. Then whatever they don't take you can just drop it off to Goodwill. But I would just take a weekend and do all of it at once so that you can see an imedieate change rather than a gradual change.

8) Hmmm... What about car cleaning stuff like Armor All wipes, spray, etc.? Its not something that you would normally think of but it can help you maintain your car. Also what about basics like jumper cables, a jack and a tire iron? Also a first aid kit, emergency blanket, snow chains (if you live in an area where it gets snowy), ice scrapper, Swiss Army Knife, non perishable food and water just in case you get stranded. Even a membership to Triple A would be good.

4) I don't really think that Crystal Light is that healthy. It for sure has chemicals in it (at least the dye and the flavor) and we don't know what kind of effects those might have on our bodies in the long run.
I usually squeeze lemons or add some apple cider which helps increase metabolism (1 tsp AC, 1 tsp honey, 0.5l water)

5) What kind of vitamins do you take and what are they for?
Right now I am taking Omega-3 for my skin and hair, biotin for the hair, calcium for weight loss and bones, vitamin D against cancer. That's 7 tablets a day.

6) Dried fruit and nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, dried cherries, cranberries, blueberries, raisins, banana chips). You might want to add some almonds to your diet because they are considered to be good for your skin :)

1) I use the dior pressed powder. I think it's great. It's very fine, and I find it helps control any oil/shine problems I have. I have acne from time to time still! (I'm 27) And it doesn't seem to aggravate it.
2) I use the dior lightshow/pure light (my memory is hazy today. sorry) foundation - again, this doesn't seem to aggravate my acne, and is much nicer on my skin than the MAC foundations I used to use. I try to wear foundation as little as possible, and just get by with my pressed powder, or the FACE Stockholm loose powder I have
4) I have 2 drink bottles at my desk, so I don't have to get up super often to refill it (the cooler as at the other end of the floor, MILES away I tell you). I make it a goal to drink a certain amount by a set time. If I make it, I get to have my mini chocolate snack or a coke zero.
5) I get b12 injections for health reasons, other than that, I don't take any supplements, I try to balance my diet so I get everything I need naturally.
6)Prunes, laughing cow cheese (ok out of fridge for 5 hrs), low fat/sugar yoghurt, nut mix (not roasted/salted)
7) ha ha ha ha - I have a similar problem. Have you looked at cutting the logos off your band t-shirts and using them to make a quilt type deal or something? I tend to sleep in my t-shirts. I try to be hard on myself when I am shopping - I ask myself, what will this go with, what will I wear it to, what do I have that already serves this purpose, is it on my "things I do need" list. As for purging - get rid of anything that needs repairing, doesn't fit perfectly, isn't good quality.

dear goodness!

4) I usually add Kool Aid packets, which probably eliminates the entire point of drinking water in the first place, but whatever. :) It also helps if I carry just a plain bottle of water around with me...therefore I won't be tempted to buy a soda because I reaaaaally hate wasting things.

5) I take MSM because it's good for hair growth and it helps with my joint pain. I also take Biotin for my hair/nails. That's it, though!

6) I carry apples and bananas. Everywhere. Yumm.

7) I actually wore pajamas to school today and visited my work place in them! They were all "uhmmm...you're not working today, are you?" haha. I now work at Urban Outfitters (as well as a restaurant) so I just went through all of the clothes I don't wear anymore. I gave it all to charity. I don't really ever wear band shirts because they don't fit me very well, so it was pretty easy to stop buying those. You've just gotta think twice before you buy more PJs/band shirts. :)

hth!
