daddy stop runnin' least let him run by your side I need you happy
the longer you run further I'll go to reach you til I come up short
young colt grown older yesteryearling then & still unbridaled fear rides
time away we stew pack mules can't carry the hurt much harder than soup
much to say dammed up reservoir tip of my tongue held back just so long
under pressure here pressure's all I've ever known press your lips to mine Tags: author: joey boyd, friday haikus, haiku

They Call the Wind Maria Dust devils on the plains Or moanin' in the mountains, Maria's blowin'. Don't make much dif'rence What work ya do, herdin' sheep, Drive cattle, prospect. She'll rage all day long, But when night comes, she changes. Maybe she's tired. Maybe smells cookin, Knows people got needs she ain't. She gets curious. Wants to take a look At the campsites, fires, tents, horses. Thinks, "What's going on?" They sit around, talk. Finally they eat. More talk Pass a bottle, drink. Gotta be the fire That makes `em wanna do that. Always `round the fire. She drops down to hear, Quiets down, tries to listen. What're they sayin'...? Hey, Ennis, I think It's `bout time t'hit the hay, Don't you? I'm tired.
One o' the things that I like best sleepin' out here Is that lullaby,
Them soft night breezes Sighin' up in the tall pines. Think it's got a name?

stare of into space pain permeates the landscape those do-or-die eyes
full of misery far short of a dream come true you know it's your fault
can't lift your dark cloud you wait for your next defeat rest. it will find you
encompassing loss navigators get lost too detours and road blocks
trains leave me distant fields green, yellow, make me blue only you change that
how can I sway you you wallow in compromise we're lost in your fear
the first one is inspired by the fab artist that drew the beautiful black and white close-up of jack a couple of weeks ago (at Brokeback No-Reins) ...forgive me for not remembering who that is but the piece is beautiful...do or die eyes... Tags: author: joey boyd, friday haikus, haiku

no business Mexico assured that your ass is mine don't let me catch you
it ain't no brokeback no riverton reverie this my so called life
It's in your power can you get it right this time can't be left alone
clocks stop, time doesn't temporary after all said and done, times up
something's in my eye result of what's in my heart tears tear at my soul
who'd of ever thought hotter in the shade of night under steamy moon
seen too much alone places to see together don't let fear blind you Tags: author: joey boyd, friday haikus, haiku

I'm not going to beat around the bush. I thought the song deserved better treatment than I gave it, so I largely re-wrote the haiku. Amateurish effort, I admit, but that's what I am, a lover of Brokeback Mountain.
If I could erase the first one I would, both on the list and in your minds. But like the song says, That Cannot Be. I'm sorry. Buy in haste, repent in leisure. But I do think this one's better. A Dream on Brokeback Mountain (final version)
Atop the mountain, The gnats attacking my eyes. Vast distances. I Can see forever, Beyond the horizon. But Something is missing. I blink. Is this real? Ceaseless wind, wuthering, my Ears numb to its hum Gnats. Hum. I'm aware Of those, but not the beauty. Sumpin. Dunno what. Far lakes, sparkling streams. Why not jump in? Fish? Just gaze? Warm sun, cool forest. My heart's not in it. Clouds, their shadows, move across Like people, alive. But they don't touch me. Nothin' I see touches me Not even the world There was a time in Days gone by, when hope was high And life worth living When we could ride through Rivers wide, taste the water, Smell the woods, the pines When you and I could Touch the sky, when life was good. Being together. You slept one summer By my side. You filled my days With endless wonder You took my childhood In your stride. But you were gone When the autumn came. And still I dream you'll Come to me, that we will live The years together But there are dreams that Cannot be, and there are storms We cannot weather I had a dream my Life would be so different from This hell I'm living When peaks were hope and Earth was love. But as I stand Atop our mountain, I gaze at beauty Turned to shame. Life has killed The dream I dreamed. ~~~foreverinawe May 11, 2009 Tags: a dream on brokeback mountain, author: foreverinawe, haiku

find your voice, make noise let the world know you exist I already do
thinking long and hard that's the thing about last night hardly a fair fight
mountain top alone here, as quiet as it is can't find any peace
women don't get me guess I'm not an easy read less it's your chapter
campsights smoke rising seems so small from up here I know it isn't Tags: author: joey boyd, friday haikus, haiku

Growin' Up in Lightnin' Flat Wha'd you like to do When you wuz small, growin' up? Ride? Swim? Anything?
Rode woolies couple times, Dad held me on, ma screamin'. Just a couple times. Not much I could do, No siblings, no neighbors' kids. Cousins once a month Ma took care o' me, Let me help in the kitchen, Break eggs, stir the cake She read to me some. Old man there at suppertime, Too busy fer me. Finally started school. First time around other kids. Didn't know how to act School stunk. I got bored. They didn't teach us nothin'. Two hour bus both ways Summer vacation? Old man worked my ass off, but I did learn a lot. Have a swimmin' hole? Skinny dipped with our helpers Durin' the summer Guess I spent more time With them than anyone else. Best friends. Only friends. Got tired o' the place, Wanted t'see other things. Rode bulls outta there. But I starved to death. Took any job I could get. S'how I wound up here. Now friend, you tell me: Your brother and your sister... They do right by you? ~~~foreverinawe May 8, 2009 Tags: author: foreverinawe, friday haikus, grownin' up in lightnin' flat, haiku
