So far I've found three Flickr photosets (including my own) of the Pride Parade with a focus on the bisexual contigent.

There are *lots* of other Pride photos on flickr, just search around by tag or search terms in the text.

Also, if you have photos of the contigent that I can have to upload, feel free to send them to me or give me links to them, and let me know how you want to be credited and whether they're copyrighted to you or in creative commons.

Thanks!

For local bisexuals and bi-friendly folk, there's "marching in the Pride parade together" info here:

Hey folks, big thanks to everyone who voted in round one for the Murphy-Goode Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent job. I made it to the top 50 candidates!

Round two has started, and votes have been reset to zero. Except that it seems that if you voted for me in round one, you can't vote again in round two, which means I have to really work the Social Media to get all new votes from folks I don't know. So I can use all the help I can get spreading the word.

For those who haven't heard, the Murphy-Goode Winery up in Sonoma County is looking for a web guru to spend six months using Social Media outlets such as LiveJournal, Linked-In, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and such to promote "The Wine Country Lifestyle." The job search has gained national attention because for the six month contract job, the Lifestyle Correspondent will be living in a house right near the winery, and will be making $10,000 per month.

I'm now in the top 50 to get this job, and since Social Media is a big part of it, Murphy-Goode wants the applicants to go out and get "votes" as part of the application process. If you'd like to support a Bay Area candidate for the job, you can help by going to:

http://www.areallygoodejob.com/video-view.aspx?vid=bnSrYIyfXBc

and voting for me. You have to enter your email address, but you won't be added to any mailing lists unless you check off the box below that. So don't check off the box below that, okay?

You WILL get a confirmation email for your vote, however. Your vote doesn't count until you click on the link in the email. It generally takes less than ten minutes for that email to arrive, so if you don't get it pretty quickly, check your spam folder.

Thanks for lending a hand!! And please tell all your friends!! Let's keep this Bay Area job in the Bay Area!

EDIT: The Murphy-Goode folks have sent out an email saying that there really isn't any voting for the Top 50, now. It was only supposed to be for the original submissions, and it didn't get turned off for "round two." Thank you all for your support on this one, I really really really appreciate it.

Hair Dye

  • Jun. 12th, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Where are some good places in the east bay to purchase colorful hair dye. Specifically I'm looking for blue black and fire engine red or bright purple, along with some developer to make the red bright, and I want the dyes to be permanent. I think I can settle for long lasting semi permanent for the red though.

I don't want punky colors, I'd prefer something a little higher quality than that because punky gets on EVERYTHING. Though, knowledge of where shops that carry punky colors and things like that would be good in case I can;t find what I'm looking for.

Anywhere in the Oakland/Berkeley/Albany/Alameda type area would be preferable.

Thanks!

Sacramento AIDS Rally - June 2009
Sacramento AIDS Rally - June 2009
People from all over the state gather to oppose the draconian budget cuts proposed by the Governor.

Phillip's first-hand report:

I am sick today, having caught some bug, which luckily didn't hit me until I got home from the rally in Sacramento. There was a good crowd from all over the state, filled with passionate intensity, and clearly ready to fight the draconian cuts proposed by Governor "Arnold." A number of elected representatives spoke to the crowd and affirmed their opposition to any cuts to the HIV/AIDS Program, cuts that would also endanger the federal dollars given to the State of California to provide drugs to people with HIV/AIDS, to pay for treatment, and to prevent the spread of the disease through funding for education and prevention.

Our long-time friend, and state representative, Mark Leno of San Francisco, spoke to the crowd. (Pictured below.) Leno is on the health care budget committee and is firmly opposed to any cuts to the much-needed state HIV/AIDS program.

Leno, the other law-makers at the rally, and the people who turned out - realize that short-sighted cuts to this vital program will end up costing the state much more money in hospitalizations, deaths, and increased infection rates. A dollar "Arnold" wants to "save" today will end up costing ten dollars down the road in increased health care costs to people as they get sicker without access to the drugs that keep us alive and healthy. We already know that education and prevention dollars spent today save the state money in the long run by reducing new infections.

These dedicated law-makers, and the activists that both spoke and attended the rally, realize that lives are at stake - the lives of thousands of Californians. I left the rally with a new sense of hope, knowing that we have powerful law-makers on our side, and that they will fight for us, not only to preserve state money for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, but also to secure the matching federal funds needed to keep Californians with HIV/AIDS alive and healthy.

But the battle is far from won! We still need you (Californians) to write to our troglodyte governor and your local law-makers, to tell them you oppose any cuts made to these vital programs. Said programs not only (help) provide life-saving medications. They also pay for treatment, education and prevention. As Chairperson for the Community Advisory Board for the San Mateo County HIV/AIDS Program, I vow to keep up the fight and to continue to champion for all Californians impacted directly by HIV/AIDS.

Rally Against AIDS Cuts in Sacramento June 10 at 1:30pm:

Governor Schwarzenegger wants to slash California's HIV programs. If approved, this would mean massive cuts to the state's AIDS Drug Assistance Program, HIV testing, and other programs, and the virtual elimination of HIV prevention and education. This will endanger the health and well-being of more than 35,000 low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS in California. The elimination of HIV prevention programs would also result in even larger numbers of new HIV infections in the state.

Help us stop the cuts to HIV programs. Join us on the steps of the State Capitol on June 10 and send a clear message to state leaders: DO NOT CUT LIFESAVING HIV PROGRAMS!

If you're interested in joining us in Sacramento, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, A&PI Wellness Center, Stop AIDS, and WORLD will be chartering buses to help people get to Sacramento. Contact any of those organizations if you're interested in getting a ride up to Sacramento.

If you cannot join us you can still help!

Call, write or email your state representative and the governor's office tomorrow. Let them know you oppose cuts to HIV/AIDS services, and that your vote counts, as does your friend's votes.

And thank you for your support!

Moving (woo-hoo!)

  • Jun. 6th, 2009 at 6:57 PM
Hey all,

Moving from LA to San Francisco this summer to attend Academy of Art (any fellows?). So, I have few questions, hope some of you can help. My bf, my dog and I are looking for place to live, preferably 1bdr. in the city or great SF area, our budget is limited to $1200 per month, any chances? Any neighborhoods to scan or avoid? I don't drive so anything that is close to muni, bart or bus lines would be awesome, if it's close to park where I can walk, play and run with my hyper Jack Russell it'd be triple-cool... Craiglist is a big help, next week I'm coming to check few places, but would like to walk-in and check a few more... Any help, comments or suggestions will be much appreciated!

Peace
We’re looking for a roommate for our gorgeous, modern Mission apartment. Our place is near St. Francis, Arkay, Humphrey Slocombe (ice cream!), Slow Club, three grocery stores, Potrero Hill, and Valencia. We’re on several bus lines, too.

About the apartment…

Our home is clean and comfortable. The common spaces feature hardwood; lots of light; a fireplace; mid-century and modern furnishings; original art; and a spacious kitchen with marble counters, modern appliances, and just about every kitchen gadget that you can imagine. There’s also roof /patio access and a coin-operated laundry. We have cable and DSL.

About the room…

Your room? It’s medium-sized, with a large closet and outdoor access that’s perfect for a flower box or two. You’ll have a view of Twin Peaks, hardwood floors, and storage. You’ll also share the clean, modern bathroom.

About us….

The roommates are Alison, Jacqui, and Finn (the Frenchie). Jacqui and Alison are queer and good friends, but not a couple. We’re both friendly, laid back, thoughtful, creative, environmentally conscious, progressive, independent, and tidy. Our home isn’t communal, but we share condiments and kitchen implements; we’re open to sharing a CSA box, as well.

Alison, 34, works for the school district's autism program and attends psychotherapy school. She’s an omnivore who likes to cook, travel, hike, camp, read, spend time with her friends and girlfriend, watch the occasional bad tv show, and try new restaurants.

Jacqui, 28, is a photographer. She likes to spend time with Finn and friends, play guitar, take pictures, ride bikes, read books, travel, watch retro sitcoms, and redecorate the living room.

About you…

You’re ONE person, no exceptions. You are friendly, laid back, clean, and progressive. You don’t smoke in the house, ever. You’re probably in your mid-20s to mid-30s and definitely motivated, thoughtful, responsible, and able to pay your bills ($840 rent plus about $70 per month for utilities and cable + security deposit) on time.

What else? You’re queer/very queer friendly and you LOVE dogs but don’t have one. You also love a well-furnished apartment, but won't bring much common-area furniture. You have your own life but want to be friends with your roommates and share the occasional meal, drink, or hike. You don’t see your apartment as a rooming house; community is important. You’re social and like music but respect that your roommates keep early hours. Further, you’re interested in a home, and you aren’t planning on moving in a few months.

The details…

Move in requires one month’s rent plus one months' security deposit (which can be paid in two installments). We’re ISO someone who can move in anytime between July-August 1, dates flexible. If you’re interested, let us know a bit about yourself. Email us at potrero2223@gmail.com and we’ll try to get back to you ASAP (we have busy schedules!).

  • May. 31st, 2009 at 7:21 PM
Hi! My fiance and I are looking for someone to take over our apartment. We are moving to SF and need to be in the new place in 2 weeks. So if anyone is interested in moving in soon that would be great!
The rent is $1025mo,and if you can move in soon, no deposit. Also I think if you decide to sign a new lease rent goes down around $995mo.

The apt is located in fremont, on fremont blvd near the brookvale shopping center. It is a good size for a couple, being about 760sq ft. 1 bd rm, 1 bathrm, small kitchen, large living room. Has a small balcony, dishwasher, gas stove, large pantry closet.
Apt complex has a pool as well.

If anyone is interested or has questions please msg me.
