Another Concert Recap - from Tuesday
We arrived at the Roxy around 7:20pm, and despite the line being really long, we got right next to the stage with no trouble. We had great spots right by the strings section.

Kandsye McClure was there to host the evening and introduce the band. She was beyond gorgeous and adorable. She was so sweet, and she seemed genuinely happy to be there. She joked around with the audience and answered that she was the final cylon when someone asked. And she wore a really great dress!

Brendan McCreary's band opened, and we got a taste of what was coming up. The violinist - Paul Cartwright - is so passionate and just awesome. I have never seen anyone play a violin like that, and we had a front row seat for it - sweet. :D

There was a short break, then Bear McCreary and the group came on stage. Raya Yarborough sang - the opening song was A Distant Sadness. They rocked out. It was seriously one of the best concerts I have been to. Hearing that music live is unbelievable. When I told my non-BSG friends what kind of concert I was going to, they looked at me with tilted heads and said, "huh?" That's because they just don't make television scores like this. Bear McCreary - damn, that boy can write.

There were many awesome moments including:
- a crowd of 400 replying with "So say we all" without the slightest hesitation
- watching all of the orchestra members (is that the proper terminolgy?) just rock and be so passionate and into it
- they played Black Market twice (my favorite score on the Season 2 soundtrack) and they all jumped around and headbanged both times
- getting a drumstick from MB Gordy - someone took a picture of me with it, I'd love to see it
- hearing All Along the Watchtower live
- watching Bear conduct
- the priceless moment when during the intermission video when Edward James Olmos makes bear growling noises at the camera - OMG! I hope it shows up on YouTube or at least the Season 4 DVD extras
- Kandyse McClure said they call Edward James Olmos "Papi;" that just made my heart smile

I've included some YouTube videos (from other folks) and links to most everyone's reports in this post over at my blog - please let me know if you have pics and vids up somewhere - I'll add the links. I'd love to know who else was there last night too!

*waves hand*
I was over on the other side by Bear, which was also an awesome view. There are some recent photos on my journal of me, to see if you perhaps saw me.

I really enjoyed it, although I got less out of the documentary given that the sound didn't transmit that well over to my area.
It was a fun time though!

The one thing that I thought they should have played was the main theme - I love those vocals, and bet they would have kicked ass live. Also with the drumming. There were other songs that sounded similar, but the vocals were slightly different lyrics.

I totally saw you! That was really the best spot to be, but we didn't get in the door soon enough to get over there. :D

I had a hard time seeing the whole documentary because of the angle I was viewing it at, so I really hope someone posts it.

I thought the same thing - the vocals and the percussion would have been awesome. Plus it's such a short piece...

It was fantastic!

They'd better do this next year, 'cause I'll actually live in LA then.
