Michelle Forbes on TRUE BLOOD
You guys will get a kick out of our first peek at Michelle Forbes as The Maenad on TRUE BLOOD.

Although it was announced that we wouldn't see The Maenad till the season finale, wellwhadyaknow! there she was on last Sunday's new episode #110 "I Don't Wanna Know". I almost fell off my chair when I realized what/who I was looking at.  I posted some screengrabs and a clip of her scene over here (go to about halfway down the post)...but I highly recommend you watch the entire show, it's pretty fun stuff!

Wonder if we'll see any more of The Maenad in the two remaining TRUE BLOOD eps this season. [info]the_grynne  posted something recently from the casting sides describing The Maenad:

"This wild woman is supernatural, articulate and polished. She feeds on the fears of others and is a BIG DEAL in season two. Nudity might be required."

Whee!

ETA 11-17-08: Aha folks, Michelle was on last night's ep too (#111 "To Love Is To Bury"), and it looks like her role on the show will be further expanded next week.  Big fun!

nudity may be required - isn't that the case for all the characters on True Blood? :D

I was laughing so hard when she appeared, definitely wasn't expecting it either. :D

Yeah I pretty much fell off my chair. Then I rewound it about 5 times ROFL'ing. Great stuff.

In the books that True Blood is based on (don't worry, this is not a spoiler), the maenad was like always naked. As soon as I heard that Michelle Forbes was cast to play her, it was like, Admiral Cain? Nekkid?!?! Just one more reason to tune into the show!

***extra pimp for Charlaine Harris's Sookie novels, they are awesome***

***oh, and Team Eric!!!***

Without giving away any spoilers, how closely is the show following the books because I was really considering reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels but I don't want to spoil anything that's going to happen on True Blood so I keep debating whether or not to.

The show is somewhat following the books - the serial killer story seems to be like the books, and so is Bill & Sookie's romance. But they've also added a whole bunch of storylines to the show that aren't in the books (Tara, Jason). The books are told from Sookie's perspective so you definitely get to know her more.

I would recommend reading the series but not yet. If you're in the middle of the show and don't know who the killer is, the book will totally spoil you. I'd say wait until this season is over (I think there's 2 more episodes), and then pick up the books to fill the time before next season starts.

But, if you don't like being spoiled AT ALL for any seasons, I wouldn't read any of them. I think Ball is only supposed to take loosely from the following books, but it's been enough to have me constantly analyzing books vs. show. And it kind of sucks to already know who the killer is.

Thank you! I've been curious about the books and whether it would be okay to read now or it I'd enjoy things more by waiting. I'm very anti-spoiler, especially about who the killer is, so I'll make sure to not even peek at them!

I was spoiled for something that happened on Farscape -- don't remember exactly what it was -- but being spoiled totally deflated my enjoyment of the show, not to mention doing away with much of the anticipation.

And, speaking of anticipation, I can't decide if I want to watch tonight's episode now or wait until both this one and the next one are on VOD. One ep at a time isn't as filling.

This show is my new favorite (after BSG, natch). Well worth watching and I didn't even recognize Michelle though I knew she was coming.

And word to the ridiculousness of "nudity might be required." This show loves their naked bits to an extreme amount.

I think so too! Because there are a lot of people on BSG that I would like to see naked on True Blood.

It's my only non-BSG icon too! But I need a Tara one. Preferably that says Tara on it. Or maybe a Tara/Sam.

That and a Davis from Smallville icon and I will be complete.

I totally didn't realize that was her until we saw the episode again yesterday on HBO On Demand. And then it was like, wow!

I suppose they decided to slip in an appearance setting things up for next season. Like there's not enough going on!

Interesting to see quite a few BSG fans also like True Blood...I am definitely one of them, it's amazing. I did an inner squee when I saw MF!

Nudity may be required.

Yeah, my brain also stopped at that point. And it seems we'll have quite some Michelle going on on season 2! ^^
