Tigh/Roslin 2008
Okay, it has to be done. With the obvious notice that McCain/Palin looks a lot like Tigh/Roslin, I've gone off and registered TighRoslin.com and am provisioning a site.

May I be so bold as to solicit anyone here who is interested in doing so to create campaign banners and graphics? And if you fancy yourself a writer, any content would be terribly helpful. Position papers, an election platform, that kind of stuff. Hell, look at the existing Obama and McCain sites, copy wholesale and change it up. Political satire is squarely Fair Use, and I intend to have fun with it.

By way of explanation, my last spoof site, "Spend It In Canada" (a spoof site intended to entice Americans to spend their "tax rebate" in Canada) made national press and got over 350,000 uniques. I'm sure this one will get less, but it still has to be done. ;)

I'll have the site up and ready over the holiday weekend.

I'll surely do as much myself as needed, but I suspect many of you would like to play.

Like McCain, Tigh is ineligible to run for office (j/k, Congressional fiat took care of McCain's "citizenship" problem, but Tigh is still a frakkin skin job).

Oh, hardly. Anyone who gets the humor is intelligent enough to make up their own mind. And anyone who doesn't get it, well, doesn't get it.

This will have *zero* persuasion on a single voter, I assure you.

It's all for the laughs.

I like McCain and even I'd laugh at it no matter the slant. But then I'm also a BSG fan. :) That's my first thought though when seeing Palin's picture... ITS ROSLIN!

Laura Roslin: Tough on Energy Reform, Dedicated to Colonial Energy Efficiency

Laura Roslin, who lives in an isolated cabin she built herself, cares about energy. "Tylium is a very important natural resource, and it's a limited resource. We need to drill now on asteroids closer to us so Caprica can finally break free of its reliance on imported tylium from other planets!"

Roslin supports drilling in the asteroid belt nearest to Caprica, and believes that alternate energy is still years away. "Our ships need tylium now. The prices are rising, Caprican families are spending half their paychecks fueling their vehicles. Drilling must happen NOW"

Not sure I have the time to program the whole campaign page but I could provide some of the graphics if someone else wanted to do it.

The Ticket for Caprica

Hopefully you're right about people not confusing Tigh with McCain from this parody. *shudders*

I'll have to break out my Roslin Airlock '08 shirt to show support on election day.

Do you have the source files for those? Layered Photoshop docs and such? Because, if so, that's a LOT of head-start work right there, and I've got others who can help with the graphics work to adapt it!

I posted the PSD source files here. They were created in CS3 but should work fine in CS2 (as long as you have smart objects). If you need me to convert it for an older format, I can.

Good luck with the campaign!

Thanks! I (and my designer friends) are all fully up-to-date on Adobe (indeed, one of my friends is flying the CS4 beta, maverick that he is).

But... that link gives me a 404 :-(

Tigh's pick of a relatively inexperienced woman for a running mate was a risky but well-calculated choice. Roslin's executive order outlawing abortion in the fleet as well as her readiness to throw Cylons out the airlock will definitely resonate well with the base. However, will a career of teaching and a few years as Secretary of Education really give her enough extraterrestrial policy experience? In addition, one of Colonel Tigh's previous statements to Roslin on New Caprica will probably be coming up constantly as the election draws near:

"You know, sometimes I think you got icewater in those veins and other times I think you're just a naive little schoolteacher. I've sent men on suicide missions in two different wars now and let me tell you something. It don't make a gods damn bit of difference whether they're riding in a Viper or walking out onto a parade ground. In the end, they're just as dead. So take your piety and your moralizing and your high minded principles and stick 'em someplace safe until you're off this rock and sitting in your nice comfy chair on Colonial One again."

Tigh doesn’t know how many homes he owns…Fleet shocked that people own homes.

The opposition jumped at the opportunity to portray Colonel Tigh as elitist as he stumbled in a recent interview to answer the question on how many homes does he own. The question came out of nowhere, specifically since no one actually owns a home in the Fleet and most people sleep crammed in ship hangers or multiple people to a room. Still the Colonel could not answer the question. When asked his response was “I don’t have time for this! I’ll have someone on my frakking staff get back to you”. Steve Rylan, a Tylium refiner had this to say. “Wait, some people actually have homes in this Fleet? When did this happen? If I’m lucky when I get off my 14 hours shift I might be able to find some space between 2 pieces of equipment to rest my head for 6 hours. This guy actually owns a home!?!” Sarah Marsh, a cook on the Gemenon Traveler also chimed in, “I slept in an airlock last night. It was the only space available on our ship. I spent the entire night hoping the cleaning crew wouldn’t blow me out into space by accident.” Naturally the opposition jumped on this quote from Tigh with a spokesman saying, “This just goes to show how out of touch Tigh and his staff are with the rest of the Fleet. You know where I slept last night? On a cot in the hallway of the Space Park. And this guy can’t figure out where he wants to sleep at night because he has so many options?!? Ridiculous! Now if you excuse me I’m going to work on our convention speech in my study…and by 'study' I mean the men’s room down the hall, stall #5.”

Opposition receives coveted endorsement...
[info]masonsdad

Opposition receives coveted endorsement from the Colonial Workers Alliance;
Tigh campaign receives backing of the United Eye Patch League.

In what can only be seen as a blow to the Tigh/Roslin ticket the Colonial Workers Alliance has decided to endorse their opponents. Union leader Galen Tyrol had this to say about the Alliance’s choice, “Make no mistake, this is not a ringing endorsement for their opponents as much as it is a vote against Colonel Tigh. Tigh has shown time and time again that his concern lies not with the blue-collar workers that keep this fleet running but instead with the elite that benefit from their hard work. The Colonial Workers Alliance hope that with this endorsement we can…we can…OK, does anyone else hear that music? No seriously, someone else has to hear it, right?”

But the Tigh/Roslin campaign can take some solace from an endorsement that numerous pundits assumed they would secure. The United Eye Patch League has thrown their political weight behind the Colonel. Not as strong a political force as the Colonial Workers Alliance, The United Eye Patch League however was key in getting the “No Running with Scissors” Amendment passed last year. Tigh was gracious in accepting their endorsement, “The United Eye Patch League has always been a strong supporter of the causes I hold dear. Their endorsement, while not as flashy as the Colonial Workers Alliance is still a victory for Team Tigh/Roslin and I hope in the future to work very closely with them to…to…OK, does anyone else hear that music? No seriously, someone else has to hear it, right?”
