Mary didn't receive the nomination. I can't say that I'm surprised, but I am extremely disappointed and upset. Hopefully, since season 4.5 will be airing in 2009, Battlestar will be able to have one last try for the 61th Emmys.

Although I am glad that Six of One got nominated for Outstanding Writing. It was one of my favourite episodes of the season (so far).

Why yes, I nearly threw something at my laptop. I'm hunting down the Emmy voters. Anyone want to join me?

Not shocked, just saddened Mary didn't get the nod.

interesting that Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series Emmy nods are for BSG, Damages, Mad Men and The Wire. no Lost (she said snarkily)???? it's like someone actually noticed that the outstanding writing isn't on the *yawn* big network shows that people constantly trumpet as the best on TV. I'm almost impressed.

Gotta disagree with you on Lost. "The Constant" was easily the best hour of television I've seen this year. People think it jumped the shark season 2, but this past season was its best ever, and I'd give it heavy odds to win best drama. It's the only show I look forward to each week more than BSG.

I never expected anyone from BSG to get acting nods. Because I have no faith in The Emmys. They'll give it to someone from Grey's Anatomy, just like they do every year. They are so out of touch it's pathetic.

That's going to be really hard to do, since no one from Grey's was nominated in either category that EJO or Mary were nominated in.

Bah. Yet another year of proof that the Emmys don't really know quality when they see it. Though I'm glad BSG and Razor are getting at least some recognition; I'm especially happy about the episode Six Of One being nominated.

And Mary still wins every award possible in our hearts. Mine for certain.

Good hunting... (I'll join you sure thing)

i'm sitting here laughing. did anyone actually EXPECT any of the actors to get nods? like... for REAL? i sure as hell didn't. ;)

but, just fyi, glenn close's patty hewes is laura roslin. in a mirror. a very very dark mirror.

Patty Hewes is one scary bitch. Scary scary bitch. But she's tough and non-compromising, and she believes in getting done what needs to be done by any means possible, and President Roslin is very much like that, without the horrible selfishness, I think.

i'd love to get the two of them in a room for an hour. or two... or more. :)

patty hewes is MUCH darker than laura. then again, i wonder how laura would be if she didn't have people like bill and lee and billy to act as her conscience, to pull her back when she steps over the line.

Well, teachers have to be mean, or their students will terrorize them, first grade through twelfth grade. I know, I'm a teacher, so that's something that had already toughened up Roslin;) Hewes is just a greedy lawyer without a soul, so no one could ever help her.

Patty would have had Billy, Lee, and Bill killed, most likely.

haha! poor billy; she would have probably fired him before that.

i think they have a lot in common, thematically. they're both strong smart women in positions of power, they both think they're right (someone even says in the pilot that patty sees herself as someone with "a higher destiny"), and they're both willing to make tough calls. frobisher is a little like gaius baltar, being guilty and having gotten away with it and all that, and both patty and laura pursuing them because they're guilty "of something", to quote both women, actually.

laura did intend on having cain assassinated, after all. but while we know what laura's motives are whenever she does something ruthless, we don't know much about patty. perhaps her motives are valid as well. we'll see.

anyways, sorry if i go on and on about this, but i'm doing a damages re-watch at the moment, and analyzing patty hewes in parallel - and something antithesis - to laura roslin. it's fascinating. :)

I need to rewatch it, too. Have I already missed the start of the new season? I suppose I can catch up, if I have.

I have to admit, that I find Patty Hewes much harder to take than Laura Roslin. Roslin is trying to save what's left of the Human Race, as far as she and the fleet knows.

Patty's trying to win an ungodly amount of money in a legal settlement. I've worked for lawyers, so it's just not as noble a mission as saving Humanity.

nope! you haven't missed season 2, they just started filming in nyc last month, i believe. it's slated to premiere in september or october, i think. in the fall, either way. :)

funny, that's what i was saying to a friend: i admire both women for their strength and resolve, and find them fascinating as characters, but can't love patty. i do love laura though. a lot. basically, i wouldn't mind living next door to laura roslin. i'd probably move if patty hewes were my neighbor, tho. :)

Really sad about Mary, but I kind of expected she wouldn't make it.Which is even more sad.

But,I am ecstatic that we got a writing nomination!
And I think that "Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series" is probably the best category there is.I mena, look at the brilliant nominees!

Pretty ironic though, that the only major nomination for the show is for the-man-whose-writing-everyone-liked-to-bitch-about.At least, before S4 started.
Great job,Mr Angeli.

I'm upset about Mary not being nominated. I do have to say that, regarding the nominees, I've only watched Damages, L&OSVU, and The Closer, so I can't comment on Sally Field's or Holly Hunter's nominations. Anyway, Kyra, Mariska, and Glenn did do fabulous work on their shows; however, I think Mary was the best on hers.

Wait, I did see one or two episode of Saving Grace, and I found the story and the lead character particularly annoying, and I like Holly Hunter. I can't judge Sally Field by the one or two episodes I halfway watched.

yay for the nominations, but I'm also sad that Mary wasn't nominated.

You know, the list of nominees last year is not so different from the list this year. There are more Mad Men, but the list of Best Actress noms in a drama series is pretty much the same (except for Glenn Close and Holly Hunter) :D

I guess the consolation is...there's still another half a season that could get nominated next year? *shrug*

sigh* Didn't really expect it, but frak. This is an absolute disgrace. It was disappointing that she didn't get a nom in seasons one through three, but her work in season four has been such a cut above, that it is an absolute disgrace for her not to be recognized for it simply because it's a cable show called "Battlestar Galactica". Every narrow-minded anti-sci-fi Emmy voter should be forced to watch "The Hub" and realize what a frak-up they made. Again.

However fantastic news on the writing nom- didn't BSG win that last year? Or did it just get a nom?

I wish! No, if BSG had won, hell would have frozen over. :( The Sopranos won for the series finale. Apart from having a famous 'shocking' non-ending, the episode wasn't really anything that special. I loved the Sopranos, but it didn't deserve to win, or to occupy 3 out or 5 writing nominations for that year. I think it used to get 3 or 4 writing noms before, but that was fully deserved back in season 1 or 3...in season 6, it wasn't. "Occupation/Precipice" easily blows everything off that list and really should have won. :(

Not at all shocked, but still very disappointed to see that Mary hasn't been nominated.

Delighted to see BSG up for Outstanding Writing though... well deserved!

As for the other categories... I don't think that any of the other shows are in the same league really. That may well be personal bias, but so be it.

Bear didn't get a nom, and neither did Mary. This is a disgrace, frankly.

I think if they'd been able to get The Hub in before the deadline, things might have been different, but I'm not really surprised considering this is sci-fi.

I'm upset about Sally Field's nom. Nora Walker is interesting, but I really don't think she's played quite as well as Mary plays Laura. She's just an easier character to act, frankly, and doesn't really have as many layers as Laura does. But then, once again, The Hub wasn't submitted for the Emmy's, and I don't think Faith, albeit great acting on Mary's part, is quite as complex as is needed to sway Emmy voters our way.

Hopefully there's always next year.

In the meantime, I'm very excited about the VFX and writing noms <3. At least we get *some* recognition for sheer awesomeness.
