Housekeeping and updates
Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who attended BASCon 7. As always, I hope folks had a good time; it's what we strive for.

Here are some updates:

Charities:

Thanks to our generous membership, we'll be mailing checks in the following amounts to our two charities:

$495.00 to Project Open Hand
$459.00 to Breast Cancer Action

Both organizations are very upfront about how the money is spent. I encourage folks peruse both websites and read up on their financial information.

BASCon 2008 Registration:

We had a slight increase in our fees for 2008:

Attending Memberships: $80.00 until 7/31/08
Support Memberships: $40.00 (which includes a copy of the BASCon Vid Show DVD)
Dealer Memberships: $90.00 until 7/31/08, Extra tables $50/table

At the moment, if you would like to register, you can sent payment via PayPal to registration@bascon.org or by mail. We're in the midst of a webmaster change so links on the webpage for PayPal will come up with old information for the moment. As soon as those links have been changed, we'll let everyone know.

BASCon 2007 Vid Show DVD:

Yes, I have a limited number left and they will be for sale. I need to update mailing and postage information for everyone since there were postal increases this year. When I do that, I'll have a place where you can send in your order since the DVD ordering information on the website is old and frumpy. Give me about another week and I'll hopefully have information up for y'all.

That's it for the moment. Everyone take good care and I'll talk to you soon.

Jackie

NTSC copies of the Professionals
I'm posting this for Barbara:

Anyone who bought the NTSC copies of the Professionals from me at Bascon, please contact me at EquinoxeArt@aol.com. I seem to be having a problem with disc 3 Season 4. Please try the special features and see if they work. I have redone the disc and will replace it. Thank you. Barbara

2008 BASCON Panel
I've got an idea for a panel and would be willing to moderate the discussion at the BASCON next year.
Review the slash potential of the new shows that premiered in the summer/fall of 2008. What pairings do you see in the shows and why you feel that there is a relationship?

Thanks for the great time this year and will see you next November!

Remember where we parked
Just an FYI: If you're taking the hotel shuttle from BART, remember you want to go to the Embassy Suites Hotel in Burlingame, not South San Francisco. When we were at the other hotel, people would end up in Burlingame because they forgot to let the shuttle driver know.

I'd rather not lose any of you this weekend as we don't have anyone to send out for a rescue if you get lost and find your way to some place like, I don't know, Kuala Lampur.

In Remembrance of [info]diluvian
I'm trying to organize a *thing* for those who want to come together and remember [info]diluvian. Her husband, Robert, will be in attendance on Saturday from 6:00-8:00. After the days panels and before the vid show. [info]mistressace will also be with us.

I'm leaning towards a Room Gathering so that we can have privacy to express ourselves, but con-goers will need to eat.

Maybe just an open door? Anybody with ideas please comment here.

FYI: Halloween in the Castro cancelled
Just in case anyone from out of town was planning to hit Castro Street for Halloween: it's been officially canceled by the city so you'll want to steer clear of the area. They'll have extra police patrols out to keep folks away.

Dealers room set up times? And etc
When are the Dealers room set up times? Is there a thursday nite set up? I saw a post that said the dealers room doesn't open until 4 PM on friday. True, or typo?

Oy.... I'm in a non-stop prep frenzy. If anyone has any requests for goodies, please let me know. Only 2 days left to make stuff!

And YES, we will be playing He/He folks! Just gotta pick the time and find the place....

Please note: The Supernatural panel has been moved to 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 3rd. There will be no other changes from this point further.

Popslash Bus School Alum Reunion?
So at Escapade last year, I proposed and ran a panel called the Popslash Bus School Alum Reunion, which was basically popslash folk sitting around catching up on the latest popslash gossip, and that was before Chris was on Manband, and the Vanity Fair piece about Lou came out, or Lance's book was published. (Please excuse the NSYNC focus, I'm not up on my Backstreet Gossip. You all can catch me up at the con.)

I'm happy to host a room party to reprise the theme if people are interested, but I need to know what times people think would work best.

So, suggestions? Please note: I'm booked at the following non-negotiable times:

9-11 Friday night
11-2 on Saturday

Also note, by room party my definition is a bunch of us sitting around chatting. I hadn't planned on any fancy food or drink, just a chance for us to get together and catch up. I'm flying in, so the whole bring food and beverages to, you know, do anything fancy, is sort of beyond my capabilities.

Think of it as a DIY panel in a room instead of in a you know, conference room.

A word about DIY space at the con
Hey y'all,

Please keep in mind, DIY space has always been on a first-come, first-served basis at the con itself in one-hour increments. I'll put out a sign-up sheet on Friday for Friday night - which keeps it fair. Saturday night is a little more dicey if only because we only have less space to work with this year. Only one room will be available (Solano) but keep in mind, you'd be up against the vid show.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or send me a message at ladyj dot 965 at gmail dot com.

DIY (Do It Yourself)/room party....
Raises hand! Though not late Friday night since I have no clue where I'll be, or what I’ll be doing or possibly drinking ;-)

Anyhoo I have two DIY panels I'd love to host--- one a SGA DIY panel of non McShep pairings (Rodney/Ronon, Lorne/Sheppard, Ronon/Sheppard, Teyla/Weir, Weir/Cadman, Rodney/Radek, Carson/Sheppard etc...) As mush as I Love McShep & I do! There is so much out there, that I'd love, want/need to chat/gush/squee over non-McShep pairings. Not a bash panel I just want equal time/luv toward other slash pairings. If you're interested, we can meet in the atrium Friday at 1 to convene in my room for a 1-2 o'clock panel.

Second DIY panel I’d love to host is a RPS actor (non Ban/Pop slash) panel-- namely CW actors (Jensen, Jared, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Kane, Chad Michael Murray, Steve Carlson, Karl Urban, Orlando Bloom, David Boreanaz, etc… ;-) Again to meet up downstairs in the atrium Friday at 3 for a 3-4 o’clock panel.

If those times conflict too much other possible times are Friday morning before the regular panel schedule starts & or possible Sunday after Dead Dog, but give me a heads up before hand otherwise I’ll just keep it at those times listed above

Other possible DIY panels or just a chatty get together of mutual fan luv…. SG1: Cameron Mitchell, Cameron/Daniel, Cam/Daniel/Vala--note [info]evesharmony is interested in meeting anyone who shares her luv/obsession of Cam or who might want/like to be converted *eg*, HP: And yes I still have a thing for Ron/Draco, Dark Angel: Alec *drool*, Joss fandoms Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Serenity, Highlander, Fastlane, & Once A Thief--- any of these interest you? Hunt me down we’ll talk *nods happily*

So if you’re interested in either of these panels/topics give me a holler! Weeeeeeeeeee 3 days and counting….

One Day Memberships: Less Filling, Tastes Great!
If you'd like to come to BASCon but can't commit to the whole kit and kaboodle? Have a friend who'd like to catch up but doesn't have the whole weekend off to play? Try a one day membership for either Friday or Saturday.

$35.00 will grant access to panels, the dealer's room as well as the art show, and your choice of fannish fun. Meet up with friends at the Friday night mixer or come for the video show on Saturday. If it's your first time at a con, it's a good way to get your feet wet.

One Day Memberships will be available only at the door and can be paid for by cash or check.

Other People’s Treasures-Other People's Treasures (OPT) morphed out of what used to be called the Orphan Zine Table, which was a place for publishers to sell their zines at a convention without actually attending the con. Getting bored with your old fandom collection? Feeling the lack of storage space? Let the Other People's Treasures table be the answer. We'll display and sell fandom-related items (zines, photos, original art, etc.) for you. Fill out an OPT Control Sheet and label your zines and paraphernalia appropriately and send it to Debbie (OPT@BASCon.org), or drop off the Sheet(s) with your items at the Con. Questions? Email Debbie!

Charities-Once again, our charity monies will be directed to Breast Cancer Action (BCA) and Project Open Hand. Because of the generosity of our membership, we were able to make very nice donations to both organizations and would love to do the same this year. For more information, go to the BASCon website and hit the Charities Button. If you have any further questions about the charities, contact Jackie at charities@bascon.org

Zine Library: Always looking for more donations! Please contact Debbie at Dealer@bascon.org.

Friday Night Mixer: Come meet your fellow con-goers on Friday night at 7 pm. Come have fun, partake of delicious snacks, have your fortune told and kick up your heels!

Programming: Ready, set, go! Plenty of surprises for all of you in the panels we have! Please be sure to read your BASCon Program Book to know what rooms we will be using at the new hotel.
We have a lot of interesting panels this year that we hope you'll enjoy. Among some of this year's selections: Religion and Slash, Writer's Block, Purple Prose, Universe Building and the Psychology of Kink. We'll also have panels focusing on shows both new and old such as House, Eureka, NCIS and Pros. There's a little something for everyone! If you're participating in NaNoWriMo, there will be some focused time for you to hunker with your fellow writers and make your word count. Yarn focused fen can bring and work on their current project during our knitting/crocheting/''whatever floats your boat' yarn gathering (aka - "I Haz Yarn, Let Me Show You It!")

Room Parties: Do you want to pimp your fandom du jour? Are you fond of a not-very-popular pairing? Are you in a fandom with a few other discerning fans? Are you bummed that there’s no panel discussion scheduled for the one subject you’re just itching to discuss?
Host a room party!

Your room at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Burlingame is perfect for room parties – per the marketing blurb,- “our beautifully appointed suites come with a private bedroom and spacious living room with a sofa bed and are fully equipped with two televisions, a refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, two telephones with data ports, and a well lit dining/work table.”

This year, space is a little tighter at our con hotel, and there are not as many (if any) slots available for DIY panels. Again – host a room party!

If you haven’t already, join our list at bascon@yahoogroups.com and send out a notice to see if anyone else is like-minded. Or pimp away at our LJ at bascon@livejournal.com !
Get more use out of your room than just sleeping!

Art Show- Are you an artist looking for somewhere to display your wares? Do you know an artist that wants to sell fan-related artwork or crafts? We’d be delighted to give you some space in our Art Show! Do you have artwork that you have fallen slightly out of love with but is still in good shape? Think of our Art Show! We will take it lovingly and hopefully find it a new home. We take original art, prints, jewelry, sculpture, crafts that have a fandom-based theme. Questions? Contact Liz at artshow@bascon.org

Here are some of the artists we will be spotlighting for your visual pleasure this year:
Suzan Lovett
Jane Mailander
Ramon
Gayle Feyrer
Nik Sanders
Lorraine Brevig
Jim and Melody Rondeau

Music Vid Show- Morgan Dawn is at the helm as our Vid Show coordinator and promises great new vids for all of you. Please plan to attend and after the show, the DVD will be available to be purchased at $15.00.

Volunteers-As always we'll need volunteers for the following during the con (in addition to anything else that might come up):
Dealer refreshment runs
Pre-con bag stuffing
Room set-up (for vid show)
Hospitality Suite monitoring

If you're interested, you can contact Doug (volunteers@bascon.org) before the con. Not sure what you want to do or when beforehand? You can still participate when you get to the con. Volunteers get a hearty thank you and a $5.00 discount off of the next year's registration.

Hotel Update
On Monday, October 15th, we'll be turning over whatever remaining rooms we have left over back to the hotel. Currently, there are rooms available at the con rate for Thursday, Friday and Saturday but none for Sunday.

You can still make reservations after the October 15th deadline but it will be at the current hotel rate, not the con rate and dependent on room availability.
