Heh. As a newish shift, my best advice is: Don't Panic.

*hugs you in glee*

Welcome to the insanity that is Shift-dom.

Yess.. don't get stressed out if things don't go perfectly because you'll end up looking like a crazy person (like I did). Also, make sure you are 100% confident on how to lock the doors & set the alarm beforehand!

Congrats on the promotion!

Advice: make a list of all the tasks to do so you don't forget anything! And, like above, don't panic. :D

If you are new to closing as a Shift I'd get started on the closing tasks as soon as possible. I.E. Cleaning stuff early, shutting down one bar if your store is slow enough to get by with only one etc. Also when your precloser leaves, I'd put two of the tills away in the safe. It saves a lot of the time when your closing to only have to count you and the closing barista's tills.

seconding the advice on starting early, and putting tills away early. if you only have one closer with you, do all the stuff that requires you away from the counter (if you have to clean restrooms, till stuff, etc) before the pre-close leaves, that always helps me not stress out.

and yes, also seconding not panicking, you'll be great!
