Free-pour!
I've been reading about everyone's store meetings, and I think my store did something completely unique: we had a free-pour cappuccino contest!

I came really close to perfect in the semifinal round, and then it was me vs. another of my awesome partners for the final! My second freepour was just a little dry, and hers perfect, so I didn't win the prize. (4 movie tickets.) But she is a hell of a barista, so the prize was well won and definitely deserved!

Did anyone else do anything like this?

it was supposed to be done, a team building activity roleplaying a barista with a customer and showing how you can chat it up and make a drink at the same time...and cappuccinos should be freepoured unless ordered scooped extra dry. i am beyond confused as to when we were trained to not freepour cappuccinos.

We did one, and the worst barista in the store wanted to do it for his team. Sadly, he made 2 or 3 attempts and was told that we had to continue but he wanted to make excuses as to why it wasn't coming out right.

We are, instead, doing a "March Madness" cappuccino competition in the store next month. Whoever wins gets a fleece Bux vest and an apron with Best Cappuccino 2008 or something like that sewn onto it.

We didn't have a contest, but we were free to try the free-pour cappuccino when we were on the milk unit. We put some raspberry syrup in the cup so we could see the seperation easier and went to it. Mine was just a touch on the wet side, but we figured it was because I didn't pour right up to the line, otherwise it would have been perfect.

It's really amazing to see it in the cup though! I was so excited last night. I always have made pretty damn good foam now it's amazing.

We used the raspberry syrup for the contest, so the seperation line could be seen easily by everyone.
