| | sleepy | ] | Theres this lady that comes through drive thru, and orders one of the most disgusting drinks I've ever made, and I've made some pretty gross drinks. It's a venti, 10-pump extra extra extra extra (x100) caramel frappuccino. It's so gross, I can't even imagine taking one sip of it, but I have to literally take the top off of the caramel bottle and just pour a whole bottle of caramel in the cup and coat the sides and and theres a bunch on the bottom, and then coat the whipped cream, not to mention it's 10-pumps. So my question is, is there a point at which I should charge her for the obscene amounts of caramel we're giving her? I was told so many things, I've been told we need to charge her, I've been told that since caramel already comes with the drinks we don't charge her, I really want to charge her just to discourage her from buying it, because not only is it deadly, but it's disgusting to make and it's hard to hide my disgust. |

So there's this girl at work, she's a shift supervisor, and I honestly don't know how she became shift supervisor, because she's absolutely useless. Anyway, there was a moment a couple of weeks ago where she called in sick and said she couldn't work for a week because she was in a hit and run and her doctor said for her not to. But the funny thing was, the time that she could come back to work happened to conveniently be at the end of spring break. And during this time off, a friend of hers on Facebook was dumb enough to post pictures of said supervisor partying.
Anyway, she got back, worked a shift or two, and called in sick again yesterday. Which was full of fail and lose because she was supposed to be supervising the closing shift. I was working from 1:30 to 9:30 and I've been chasing after being promoted to shift for the past few months. Anyway. They asked me if I'd be willing to stay an hour longer and close, which is fine by me. 9 hour shift, and they said it'd be my floor and I'd get paid as a supervisor. Even better. 9 hours AND more money.
After she told me this, she said "If you do well tonight, there's no reason we couldn't promote you now. Our other supervisor calls in sick too much." Which is great for me! I finally got it. Sucks for her but whatever, her loss. Shouldn't have called in so much.
It went fairly smoothly. I think considering I've only ever closed twice before this, and considering I got thrown in to "kay, you're a supervisor now" with no real recent training besides her showing me the alarm and the safe, I did really well. Store got cleaned, cash got counted, floors were done. It helped that I had a REALLY awesome team.
I used to be an assistant manager in a SBux in a grocery store, but its so different than running a full on DT store. The customer service people did the cash for us, I didn't have to count or learn anything about the safe, I didn't need to lock anything or set alarms. Not to mention twice as many staff, twice as many breaks to run, and a larger store overall to clean/tidy/stock.
I freaked out for a moment when I sent a girl on break, and I was doing both bars, and we got slammed on both ends. Haha. Thats what I get for not listening to my manager about getting breaks done before 8. Oops.
All in all, I'm glad I finally got the promotion and I'm glad that girl is enough of a bitch to get demoted :D |

Tweleve pumps! It was awful to make, the syrup accounted for almost two inches in the cup. Last night the same woman came back and ordered the same thing, but with only ten pumps. The tweleve must have been too much for her to handle. Imagine. |

| | heat of the battle - mash | ] | okay, background: with in the last month we've lost 3 partners(two no-call-no-shows, and one is about ready to pop out a babe) and we only had 14 to start off with...
today was supposed to be my day off...i'm always up for covering shifts, since i like to work and i can always use the money... anyways, yesterday my manager was talking about needing a shift covered for friday(today), because J had been scheduled and had been fired at the begining of the week...he was trying to work it out, talking out-loud, and i pip up that i could cover it...it went from being 11 to 1 to 9 till 1...that's cool...our DM was coming in, and M needed to be off the floor to sit with him... what i didn't realize was that taking this shift would end up leaving me on the floor, alone, for two hours, with the one partner who NO ONE in my store (literally, not one single partner, plus alot of the customers) likes...she's horrible, in so many ways that i can't even begin to list... well, after this shift (in which i did COW, preps, bar, CBS, stocking, cafe runs and the deposit wih the DM sitting in our cafe), my manager gave me a hug... it's funny how little things can make one happy, even after a hellish day *hug*
PS i just wanted to state that i'm in no way complaigning about working extra...this post was mostly to point out how awesome it made me feel to know that my manager actually appreciated my hard work enough to give me a hug I really, really HATE it when partners complaign about working too much when they volunteer to pick up shifts! |

I can't be the only overly-knowledgeable barista (Seriously, I know TOO MUCH about coffee–even for Starbucks. And I tend to explain in far too much detail having been an English Major once upon a time) who isn't really all that preferential about coffee. I mean, I LOVE the black Apron series, I adore Arabian Mocha Sanani, I brew Espresso Roast as Coffee in a French Press as one of my "ideal" cups of joe.
But I also keep a ready supply of pre-ground Folders and Folders instant in my fridges, and down those just as easily. Maybe with less savor, but I still enjoy my cup. I'd rather drop 50¢ at the corner store for my cup of cream and sugar coffee than buy at a 'Bux, even with my discount. It's weird, you'd think being insanely nuts about coffee knowledge would make me more discerning, but I suppose my military heritage (and having to have eaten a few too many MRE's) made me more willing to have anything.
On an unrelated note, Starbucks should totally have more caffeinated treats available. If I opened the Seattle Order one Monday and found Espresso candy or caffeinated mints my heart skip a beat with JOY.
Then I would promptly buy the entire box and we'd have to order more o_o;;
I think I have a problem... ;3 |

Tomorrow I sit down and do my First Impression with my SM. I'll be the youngest Shift in the store. Hell, I'm the youngest person in the store. I'm not worried about running the shift, or being CC, or any of the other dozens and dozens of things that Shifts have to do. I can learn that. I've been learning that. There are many people that are happy to help me should I encounter any problems.
What I am worried about it how this will affect my relationship with my co-workers. I can already see things getting strained between a certain Barista and myself. I love her to death, she's a wonderful person and a great worker. But she's unhappy with her job and life in general. Feels overqualified and underpaid.
She's 24. I'm 18. I'm going to be her superior on somedays. I'm not the type of person to just wave it in her face and laugh, but I can see how difficult this is going to be with her.
It's quite the downer.
Any other Shifts out there who started out young? Did you have problems with the older partners in your store not taking you seriously? AKA - treating you like a kid? |

how many of you have restrooms w/ baby changing table stations? are they in both the MENS and WOMENS rooms?
this was a topic that came up between a friend of mine and i - as my store is the only one in our area that actually has a diaper changing station in the womens room - however, none in the mens room. her husband was upset by this - as new parents who like to enjoy Sbux now and again he wanted to change their baby's diaper but ended up putting a blanket on the floor and changing him there on the floor of the mens room. i said he should have just used the womens room for the diaper change. no big deal.
how does it roll in your store? |
