[Current Mood | nerdy]

I had this real intellectual type guy come through the drive thru tonight....I guess maybe he was testing me (or maybe he really is nerdy enough to order this way) but he asked for a grande tepid black and white mocha.
Because I'm a word nerd I knew exactly what he meant and offered to make it at 130 degrees for him. He looked surprised.....come on, just because we are baristas does not mean we don't have decent vocab skills :)

[Current Mood | excited]

I just worked my first shift at my new transfer store and I felt I had to write an entry saying how much I love all my new partners! I love the store and everyone is so nice. I'm so excited about working here!
Gah! I'm just so excited I've finally found a home that loves me too :-)

That's all.

math question (weird, I know) [Mar. 6th, 2008|03:31 am]

So I'm holding a whole bean sales contest for my store, but I want to make sure that the contest is calculated fairly. If a barista works 5 or 20 hours, I want them to have a fair opportunity to win this competition...but my math skills are somewhat lacking. So do you guys have any ideas on how I could calculate this on a percentage basis, rather than total amount of pounds sold? I want everyone to have a fair shot, no matter what they're scheduled to work.

I just wanted to share with you guys! Yesterday my store found out we won the Whole Bean competition for Mid-America. We were thrilled, we got a framed award and a note from Mid-America representative. Hooray!

Remodel [Mar. 6th, 2008|05:39 pm]

I was really excited for ours until yesterday. When they gave us the "drop in ice box" for the frap station.

We used to have a huge rolling ice bin that we could take into the back room and fill and it took up at least half of what the giant ice maker machine holds. It was my fav part of our store.

The new drop-in ice box is about the size of the one in my freezer. No joke. It makes about 7 tall fraps before needing to be refilled. Which wouldn't be a problem except our store does a shit ton of fraps ALL SUMMER and ALL WINTER!

So here's the question: does anyone know of them going back and fixing such a ridiculous oversight? Or are we just royally screwed?

I think i'm getting a bit fed up at work... :-\ I've been a ASM for about 7 months *internal RMT* and I feel I don't really do anything different from a Supervisor. Work is just pretty tedious and I dont ever have any contact with the DM. All I get is 'the DM said' from my SM and half of it feels like she's just talking rubbish anyway.

I used to love Starbucks but I don't know. I'm sure it'll get better, I just can't escape from my store and it's a bit depressing really. My manager doesn't really know half the job either as she's a external RMT. Sorry I know this post is a bit random, I just feel a bit *blah* about it all.

My manager is on courses next week so im working 51hrs and on my days off I have the espresso training for 3 hrs and on the other I have to help my manager sort out the store for a compliance audit. I have no life. I miss my boyfriend and yeah. Anyway hope you're all doing good :-)

pastry order [Mar. 6th, 2008|07:33 pm]

[bnito]
anybody here do the pastry order? i'm a shift and i do it at my store although my dm wants our sm to do all the orders. anyway, the way we sell pastries is very erratic. we're a DT and it compared to a lot of cafe stores around here, we don't sell a ton of pastries. around christmas, to prepare for a supposed pastry rush, i ordered heavy. well they didn't sell that fast and our double freezer got so full that i the people put new pastry arrivals in the fridge. our DM saw our full freezer and said it made her stomach hurt. OK, so i tried a new plan. i now try to order just enough. this works fun, but occasionally, we run out of things. especially when random people come in out of the blue and get a traveler (which they NEVER used to do) and buy out all our AM pastries. so now i'm getting vibes that having just enough (which often leads to too few) pastries is bad and having too many is bad too. i can't win for losing! i feel like running out of a certain pastry isn't AS bad as say, running out of cups. you can always offer something else. any thoughts?

I love my store. [Mar. 6th, 2008|09:43 pm]

I just got married and am graduating from college and leaving my store in April.
I went to my store last night for an iced grande soy cdl and I was presented with two envelopes.
Both had wedding congrats cards in them. One was from my favorite regular and had $10, and the other was signed from my partners who referred to themselves as my "starbucks family" and had $70 inside.

It was one of the most touching things that anyone has ever done for me.
I am going to miss my store so, so much...

SO...

I have an SS/ASM/SM meeting tomorrow. I will be out and about in town shopping and I wanted to pick up an excellent compliment to a french press of espresso roast.

I was thinking like a Chocolate-covered Caramel from one of the local chocolate shops, but I also wanted to mix it up.

ANY suggestions?
