i know people have already made posts and commented... but i just had a few things to say about my store...
we absolutely rock. we were all trained (with the exception of 3 of us) at the same time (we all opened a new store) so the retraining was fairly rapid for us. we had a little time to goof off and for the most part it was a really great meeting. :)
also, while we were watching the movies (or clips, or whatever you want to call them) i wanted to hug the girl who was talking about her 'beautiful foam' because she just seemed like the sweetest person ever. :) anyone else agree?
oh, also: i talked to my manager briefly about the internship to florida i posted about a while ago... he said that i should call the partner line and see what they have to say. hes only been SM for about a year (he got promoted to open the store we're at now) and is not quite sure. so i'm going to call the partner line and ask about it, and also probably our DM. =)
heres to a new chapter in the History of Starbucks! cheers! |

| auto vs. manual |
[Feb. 27th, 2008|01:44 am] |

Monday night I went to a meeting so that I was able to facilitate the training tonight and my DM told us that we're not supposed to use the auto button to steam milk anymore. I didn't see anything about this in my facilitators guide so I don't know if this is just our district...so I guess my questions is, was this brought up in anyone elses meeting? |

| | worried | ] | I'm in the middle of transferring between stores, have been for a few weeks, but I'm not actually working at my old store. Here is the deal: I worked at the starbucks next to my college last semester. During winter break I "borrowed partnered" at a store back near my home. When I came back to school my old starbucks next to my school told me they didn't have room. So I frantically looked for a store that I could call home. I found one a little ways off but no worries. Only problem is I don't meet with the manager until this thursday and don't start until next week. So I obviously didn't attend the training session because I wouldn't have known which starbucks to go to, let alone neither my old manager or my new one told me to attend it.
Am I still okay?
I've been a partner for two years and already make *proudly struts* beautiful foam. Do you think my new manager will just retest me and I'll be fine? |

I'm tired of people assuming that baristas are snooty. Ive come across a bitchy barista or two in my life, but that's bound to happen in any work environment, but to say that all us baristas are arrogant and stand on a pedestal, that's just stupid. We make close to minimum wage, we have nothing to be arrogant or snooty about, and I would never dream of acting that way to a customer nor do I think most baristas would. I don't get all attitudey because someone doesn't know tall, grande or venti, I'm perfectly capable of deciphering what someone means when they say they want a small, medium or large. I think a lot of non-regular starbucks customers confuse correct calling to fellow baristas as rudeness when in fact we're not doing it to show them how stupid they are because OMG they don't know how we call a drink. I think a lot people (the same people who think they can get the same quality latte at mcdonalds), want to assume we're a bunch of snobs just because starbucks has become a bit of a status symbol. Honestly, I work at starbucks part time as a lowly barista, I don't care about making any customer feel stupid because they don't know our menu by heart, because honestly it's too much effort. This mostly came about because I was at starbucksgossip.com and someone was saying that the training wouldnt work until all the baristas got off their pedestals, or something to that effect. What an ass, I love how the anonymity of the internet makes them feel important. |

| Free-pour! |
[Feb. 27th, 2008|10:39 am] |
I've been reading about everyone's store meetings, and I think my store did something completely unique: we had a free-pour cappuccino contest!
I came really close to perfect in the semifinal round, and then it was me vs. another of my awesome partners for the final! My second freepour was just a little dry, and hers perfect, so I didn't win the prize. (4 movie tickets.) But she is a hell of a barista, so the prize was well won and definitely deserved!
Did anyone else do anything like this? |

lettermage and I were watching Parking Wars last night on A&E and a barista was ticketed for parking in a bus zone, she came out of the shop (still in apron) as he was placing the ticket on her windshield. She went off on a tangent about being an anarchist and not believing in these societies rules and all. Anyone else see this? |

Following the example of someone a few posts down, I thought I'd post some pictures from last night's meeting. I love my co-workers soooo much! these are not my pictures, they are stolen (with permission) from a co-worker.
P.S. I TOTALLY won the "beautiful foam" contest... :-) |

| "Mouth-feel? Is that even grammatically correct?" |
[Feb. 27th, 2008|03:39 pm] |
Did anyone else's entire team crack up when the phrase "creamy mouth-feel" was used during the milk phase of the training? That was the point at which we sort of lost focus. For the rest of the night, all anyone had to say was "creamy mouth-feel" and we were in hysterics.
No, just us? Oh well. |
