So today I was on bar, doing drive and lobby drinks, and I had about six drinks lined up, most of them high-maintenance in different ways (mostly involving temp). It was okay though, 'cause my bar was set up just the way I like it, fully stocked, clean, &c., and I'd established a rhythm.
And then. One of my fellow baristas asked if I could move over to the other bar (we have a W bar) so she could mop over on drive bar (and it was about the time we close down drive bar anyway), and started taking all my stuff over there and transferring milk and I was all thrown off and everything. I was still all right, but I know I looked harried, trying to reestablish myself and take orders and carry drinks over to the drive window whilst trying not to fall on the wet floor.
So I call out this lobby drink, and the guy comes up, takes his drink, and I was about to thank him and move on when he goes, 'Hey. You're doing a really amazing job.'
I seriously almost cried; it pretty much made my month, not to mention my day. |

| Two little stories |

A few quick little stories.
#1: Assuming I am an idiot and that I did not hear the order properly, when in fact I heard the order perfectly and was asking for specification:
Me: Hi, what can I get for you?
Guy: LARGE COFFEE.
Me: Sure! Do you want room for milk in that?
Guy: *stare* LARGE. COFFEE.
#2: Trying to order things off the menu without knowing what they actually are (AKA throwing around lingo):
Girl: *peers at menu board intently* ... ... ... I'll have a green tea latte.
Me: Sure! What size?
Girl: Tall. Wait, actually, maybe a chai tea latte...
Me: Okay! :)
Girl: *still staring at menu* Actually, okay, yeah... I'll have a chai green tea latte.
AUUUGH DO NOT WANT. I nicely explained that they're completely different drinks and don't really combine (she went with a GRTL in the end), but man, just the thought of a chai green tea latte makes me recoil in horror. |
