Burning question I need to know the answer to:

Do you guys have a problem with your milk guys coming in during your close?

I was always, always told the milk guys should not be there while you are there. I have my safe WIDE open (this has happened more than once) and the milk guy scares the shit out of me and my barista.

I mean I am in the back counting money, tills out, whatever.

I explain to him he can't be there and he says that all the other Starbucks just offer him coffee (which makes no sense because IF WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING THERE IS NO COFFEE).

I've brought this up to my manager once or twice and I believe she has made the call and still nothing has changed (she's very proactive). The milk guy feined ignorance about knowing he can't be in the store while we're in there.

Does anyone know the OFFICIAL policy or even the not official policy is?

How would you guys write down your job responsabilities on a resume, (yes after two year since I last used it to gain employment with Starbucks it's time to dust off the old resume).  More specifically how would you write it for a shift supervisor, oh and I also do the roasting plant order....
Thanks for the feedback!

i'm a coffee master. i have like 5 aprons. 4 of them are that nasty blue/black ish because i've had them for 2+ years and i didn't always know there was such a thing as cheer DARK. anyway.

yesterday i was wearing my blackest one (it's soo pretty) and i opted to do the floor sinks... with spirit. i got it all over the front of my apron. knowing that's bleach, i threw my apron in the wash (with cheer dark!) as soon as i got home.....but the damage was done. i now have pinkish-should-be-white-but-the-bleach-didnt-set-long-enough spots all over the front of my nicest apron. i'm SO MAD.

have any of you ever used black dye on something like this? starbucks related or not.. basically it's very lightly bleached in spots, but they're kinda big(ish)...well, big enough to opt to wear one of my nasty blueblack-ers to work until i fix this one.

if not, i know at least one of you will understand my pain! thanks :D happy lattes!

Best drink for someone who had an impacted wisdom tooth out on Tuesday and is still insanely swollen and looks like Quasimodo and can't eat anything?

hi guys..
the post below reminded me of my question but i didnt want to hijack their post.
i bought my boyfriend a breville espresso machine for christmas. its pretty awesome but as there's no magical button that i push that has one shot, or two shots (it has a dial you switch to the right for espresso and to the left to foam le milk) so i was wondering how long i run it for a single and a double?

(this is my first post by the way :) im ellen, i worked in a creperie/cafe for two years and 4 months in a cafe in a uni run by a catering company. only good thing about the latter was the training really!)

Oh yikes; bad day at work. I usually never get bad days at work either, work is like the one thing I can count on in my life.

So today was supposed to be my day off, but another shift had a funeral, and I came into bridge the gaps between shifts. I was only there for like three hours (thank godness). So I get there and handing off the shift to me is my assistant manager, and basically she takes me in the back and tells me that the newest hire doesn't like my face (this is something I say when it feels like that's the only thing the person could have wrong with me). I was his LC the first day and we got on fine. I thought he was a little unusual but whatever, he seemed okay work wise. And then today he told my ASM that yesterday he got lost in the crowd, that I denied him his breaks and I didn't train him since it was his last day training. I'll admit yesterday was crazy, and he may have felt lost in the crowd but I don't know of any partner who didn't, but he never came to me to ask for breaks because I wasn't acting shift, if he had, he would have gotten them in an instant. One fault of mine as a shift is I'm all about breaks in a timely manner, other things slide for breaks. Also, he never told me it was his last day training. I was only his LC the first day, I wasn't told to be his LC after that, and when he arrived, he went to tell the morning acting shift what was going on.

Ugggh, anyway. Moral of the story is it kicked my legs out beneath me. I feel like I'm so hard on myself all the time anyway. I'm constantly looking for ways to improve and become a better partner and shift, and just this new partner complaining about me was rough. I even called him and apologized even though I still don't feel like I'm to blame, it was weighing on my mind so much I had to call and apologize.

The worst part about it is that I feel like his complaint got so far because he's the brother of an SM in our district, who happens to be my SM's mentor. So when I see my SM on Monday, I'm sure I'm going to be ripped apart.

Oh blah. Thank you for listening and your support fellow partners.

So first of all I work at a Safeway Starbucks. When I started we had a manager J and a brand new assistant manager. In september my assistant manager passed away. Since then my co-worker R and I have been sharing the job. We have been splitting the duties and everyone has just been acting like we're both the assistant managers. We both discussed it and we were fine with it. Well recently my manager J has been saying that she's pretty sure when the DM from SBUX comes in she is going to want to discuss choosing a second. Now with Safeway being assistant manager just means that you have more authourity and guarnteed 30+ hours but no pay raise. So I really don't care if I get it because I would just like the experience. I have been at my store for almost a year and R has been there for almost 3. So when my assistant manager died I just assumed R would take his place. So the issue is that R found out today that J told the DM that she would want either one of us to be the ASM and the DM replyed, "well you know it won't be R" because she met her once and her pants had pinstripes and her shoes had some blue on them and she's a bit more of a no nonesense girl then I am. So K the DM doesn't like her personality and said she's never in uniform. She has only met her once mind you. And R has never had a coustomer complain about her and she is very sweet. She just isn't as bubbly as some of the other girls in the kiosk but definatly a nice girl. So now I told R that they are talking about maybe wanting to send me to the training to become ASM and that J said we could still share the job but one of us has to get advanvced store trained but she is really upset she has been trying so much harder lately too. She got new clothes. She wears these really uncomfortable shoes just to be in dress code. and she was intentionally not scheduled last time K was in because J didn't want to deal with it. But I think K just got a bad first impression and if givin the chance may change her mind about R. So R wants to quit now and that sucks so much I don't want her to quit but I understand how unfairly she is being treated but I love her and she's my favorite co-worker. :( What should I do?

Seeing the question about the cup of hot water reminded me....

If people get drinks in "for here" cups do they get to .10 discount? We have a regular waaay early in the morning who threw a fit when I charged him ten cents more for his tea. Since it was 5am and I was half asleep anyway I just let him have it with the discount.

Also, when do we charge for syrups? As in one pump, two pumps....I've heard on here if it's two pumps or more, my manager says if it's more than half that would normally go into the size. I was just wondering where the hell to find it in any of the manuals.

Now that I've been a partner for a while I've found so many weird gray areas that vary from store to store, or even partner to partner. When to charge for milk, how much, whether it's steamed or not....so many things.

And hey, since I'm asking questions any use for the "add dairy" button? I'm at a non-DT store and haven't seen a use for that yet beyond maybe one time.

Four questions, weigh in please and lemme know if I can find it anywhere in writing (since some friends at work are now making fun of me with "Well, I dunno, but this person on my baristas community said....").
