So the flu has been going around our store for the past month or so-- I'm guessing probably about 2 different flu strands since people have been falling ill twice ((I'm holding strong, though! That last one won't get me!)). Anyway, what seemed to help the first time around was something one of our baristas suggested we try to drink, and so far its worked like a charm for me to keep off the second strand:

Grande cup + 2 Refresh tea bags + ~1-2 inch hot water + steamed lemonade + 2 packets of honey

The smell might be a little Lysol-y, but the taste is actually pretty sweet and delicious~

Anyone else have any recipes they've come up with to help fend off colds? I'm guessing some Calm mixed with ______? During the first time I had the cold I went with above recipe and lots of calm and refresh tea mistos with soy and honey!

Grrr Coffee... [Jan. 7th, 2008|06:05 pm]

[Current Mood | aggravated]

So in my district we're testing a new way to deal with coffee in order to "get back to the basics"... it's pissing me off. So instead of grinding the coffee for the next day the night before all coffee is ground the morning of so that the store has a "fresh ground coffee" scent. We're no longer pre-batching coffee, we grind the coffee into the tubs and have scoops so we can size out the batches ourselves. The last and most aggravating part of this is that we're supposed to only brew half batches (though sometimes we cheat) and the coffee is no longer dumped every hour, but ever half an hour. It's soooo annoying! At our store during the morning rush we go through coffee so fast and now coffee seems to constantly be going down and we practically need another partner on the floor just to keep the coffee up and going. We have ended up losing business because people want drip coffee and ours seems to constantly be going down or making people americanos to make up for the lack of coffee. Is anyone else having to deal with this too? I just hate it, it causes a lot of extra work and confusion, it seems to cause less satisfied customers, it expects too much of us when we're busy, we're just stretched too thin. I don't mind the batching style so much, it's just half batches that go down every half an hour is insane to me. I want to yell at the person who thought this was a good idea.

On a happier note I finally finished my effing passport today! I have been waiting for my store to get in the right blends for a while now! Now I have a new shiny pin for my apron and I get to look forward to hopefully starting Coffee Master in the next few months! woo hoo!
