Here's the gist, so far. This may change later, as this is a new group just starting out:
Each month, the moderator posts the Book of the Month. Everyone reads the book, or at least some of it, and then create pieces of jewelry in whatever mediums we see fit inspired by said book. By chatting over LJ or meeting in person (I'll be organizing a regular meet up group in NYC at least once a month) we can work together on pieces by sharing ideas and sometimes materials. I especially would like to see artists collaborating on pieces, because it would just be darn cool. As we finish up our collaborations and such, we will show off our finished goods on the lj group. However, the only advertisements of sales that we will allow are those that will go towards charity, and by all means post more info about the charity you're working for.
If you don't feel like reading the Book of the Month, no problem! We have just opened the community so you can post jewelry based on any book you want! Questions and queries about certain books and authors, and discussions, are also OK to post.
The rules:
1) Please keep posts on topic, pertaining to jewelry made based the books you've read, both pieces that are in-progress and completed. Also, feel free to start up discussions about the books themselves, and to make suggestions for the Book of the Month. If you've been making jewelry based on another book you've been reading ouside of our booklist, feel free to post the finished pieces from those projects as well.
2) ALL pictures must be put behind an LJ cut. We will nudge a poster who forgets this rule, but after 24 hours the post will be deleted if the person posting doesn't fix it themselves. The Mods can't fix your posts individually, we can only delete them.
This is an LJ Cut: < lj - cut > [insert picture here] < / lj - cut > but without spaces.
3) No one may post personal sales to the board, only pictures of finished pieces. The exception of this is that members may post links to auctions, sales, raffles, etc. of the pieces that will go towards charity.
3) Be nice to your fellow artists. Critique is all right, but please give and recieve criticism with grace, politeness, and tact. Trolls will be chopped up, fried, and fed to starving children across the U.S.A.
4) We are not responsible for your trades or collaborative projects with the other people on this board, nor are we responsible for your auctions.
Things we won't be policing:
-Whether or not you finish the book in a month. If you get shiny ideas from just the first couple of chapters, run with it!
-Whether or not you finish your works based on the book in the same month. If we read Dracula in October and you have some finished pieces based on it in December or January, not a big deal ;-) We all work at our own paces.
-Whether or not you actually make any jewelry, ever. If you're just here to watch the shinies, no problem.
-You aren't under any obligation to auction off the pieces you make from this experiment for charity, but please do not advertise any personal sales on this board.
As moderator uno:
I promise to do my best to keep everyone working together and getting along. I will also make sure to post important info, like the book of the month, in advance so people have time to procure their own copies. Please email me with any complaints/questions/concerns you have about this board.
Our book list so far:
January 2007: Coraline, by Neil Gaiman
February 2007: The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho
March 2007: The Privilege of the Sword, by Ellen Kushner
April-May 2007: The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden, by Catherynne Valente
June-July 2007: Kushiel's Dart, by Jacqueline Carey
