Ryan doesn’t know why that loosening makes him so uneasy, like anything could happen. “You know, I finally don’t have to live my life the way other people want me to, and I’m not going to do it for you. Why do you have to control things so much?”
Ryan was expecting a fight, and the question throws him off balance; it’s curious and regretful, not angry.
