Boom Goes the Dynamite
This was in the Daily News today...

It's crazy how far the video has spread on the internet...

If you were a hot dog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?

Don't jerk me around Norm! It's a simple question! Even a baby could answer it! If you were a hot dog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?

I know I would. I'd cover myself in brown mustard and relish. I'd be SO good.

There is a difference between "making light" of something and "making fun." The kid's had it bad enough with the internet thing. But to have a peer take the time to go through all the trouble to (badly) draw charicatures just to kick the man while he's down is... well, being a dick.

I'm surprised the director let that happen in the first place. I understand the show is live but it would have been possible to tell the kid "Just say your teleprompter is messing up, we'll come back to you in a few minutes, get your act together in the meantime." It's true they're trying to emulate a professional broadcast, but incidents like this can happen to any newscaster, and a situation like that would given everyone the experience of having to adapt to a situation quickly and correct a problem.

But instead, he looks like a fool and it makes Newslink look bad because it's another example of them messing something up and looking unprofessional -- not only because this wasn't stopped, but also because one of their own staffers leaked it to the internet.

On another note, everyone I know who has seen the video feels really sympathetic for the kid and sees little humor in it.

I was standing literally next to the desk when he said "Boom goes the dynamite". Everyone was... a little confused.

I hear he's actually gotten a lot of job offers from this incident. That could just be crazy talk, but that's the word on the street...

I couldn't watch it. It was too painful. How totally embarassing and then to have his own school newspaper do that? Gah.

I really hope he has gotten some job offers or something out of the whole... ordeal.

I saw one of the anchors on ESPN's Sportscenter say "Boom Goes The Dynamite" during a basketball clip, so it's definitely garnered some national attention. That's pretty cool, I suppose.

It is cool. I actually know Brian, although not well. I haven't talked to him about this but I'm sure he's fine. He doesn't seem like the type of kid who would get too worked up over it...I know I didn't get worked up when someone on the DN website called me "the most pointless columnist ever". I bet he thinks the whole thing's pretty funny.

It is kinda awesome in a way that we're spreading to the nation in ways that don't involve alcohol...

but yeah, that was pretty crass of the DN...whatever, that whole paper is a bunch of bullshit most of the time.

my apologies for trashing your newspaper.

and yeah. i would NOT like that happening to me at first however i think after a week of the embarassment it would kind of rock. you'd be known. worldwide. it's like the star wars kid or that big black lady who did the striptease to "milkshake".

I still think the VERY end of the video is the best. When the rest of the team says their thanks for the piece and Brian is just like "suuure." Cracks me up freakin' everytime

The media hasn't really talked about it nearly as much as the internets ;)

I Googled the phrase and it's getting tossed around message boards all over the country. Iowa State, West Virginia, Alabama, even a ".uk" URL mentioned it. I've also heard that Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter said it on-air and that someone on Fox Sports Southwest did as well.

It's not like completely mainstream yet, but we're getting there. Not too long before "Boom goes the dynamite" has a Napoleon Dynamite-style cult following.
