property news?
so... this morning, i head that the ballard market sold its property to the dreaded condo developers. true? false? vicious rumor?

and what was the outcome of the most recent 'save the googie denny's' meeting?

and when will the jacobsen's marine/mcphee complex have to be sold? i hear the estate taxes are a bitch. i can't find actual facts (or well-founded speculations, even) anywhere.

Yeah, where did you hear that? I'd be so sad if the Ballard Market closed, it's my favorite grocery store.

are you sure it's not just a confusion over the Denny's property, which is the subject of some controversy, and which is very close by Ballard Market? I'll pass this along to others in the know, and seeee.....

I could see the Town & Country chain feeling very threatened by Trader Joe's opening up, but I think they make a LOT of money off the Ballard Market. But TJ's has economy of scale advantage, and can price below the Ballard Market. At the same time, as a consumer-of-food (not material junk I don't need), I have to say TJ's alone just would not provide for my needs.

I'm pretty sure a kind of sprawling one-story complex a block away from me was just sold for more condos. Which is insane, as I can see four new condos from my window right now. I don't understand why they all seem to be going in at once. It is very disheartening. (It's at 52nd and Tallman, if you're curious)

Right behind PATH (corner Leary Way and 15th Ave flyover). Towering over Mike's Chili. With a little cove in the back of the building, where an 84 yr old (or so) lady is holding out and turned down a million bucks for her tiny square of land and house....where *have* you been?? :-)

I wonder how she feels about it now, after all the construction noise surrounding her.

You know who might know about the Ballard Market being sold? People who work at the Ballard Market. If only there were a way to contact one of them and ask...

Also, if you mean that thing at the Library a couple days ago, that meeting was of no official import. The landmark board meeting isn't until February. If you were just trying to gather what the public sentiment was, I have actual information but will guess it was something along the lines of "Boo condos".

I sent this around a loop, and someone pointed out there might be confusion about the QFC construction site (24th Ave NW), and Ballard Market, generating this rumor..... I thought of asking B. Market employees, too, but the Ways of Management are also mysterious and work in strange ways.... ;)

love your icon :))
