Recipe Request: Heat-friendly Frosting

location: Randwick, NSW, Australia

I'm looking for a recipe for frosting which will stand up to the spring heat here in Sydney, Australia! It's been getting past 30°C (which is about 85°F) recently.

I need a simple frosting recipe which sets hard and won't melt too easily, so I can transport a bunch of frosted cookies in the heat by foot (about 15min walk), and then safely leave them at an outdoors (but probably shaded) stall over lunchtime. It's for a Riot, Don't Diet stall, raising money for a good cause.

  Healthy Brownies?
05 October 2008, 09:33 pm

Hey guys!

This is my first post, I've been creeping entirely too long :)

I need a recipe for *healthy* brownies. I know you can't make brownies without them being somewhat sinful in the health department, but my guy friend wants "healthy" brownies for his birthday (it's tradition that I bake my guy friends things for their birthdays & let's just say i've baked 4 presents already & it's a month into the semester haha). So can you guys give me your best, chocolate-iest, yummiest, healthy brownie recipes!! :)

Here's just a few things I've done, super randommmm & I've done a lot more I just never take pics...

yum baked goods! )

  Crusty breads without yeast?
05 October 2008, 02:42 pm

I have mussels in my freezer that are dying to be made, but they're also begging for some bread to go along with them. :) I want to make a crusty bread to go with them, but I have no yeast. Searching for recipes for crusty bread without yeast is near impossible, so I'm wondering if you all had any such recipes.

Thank you!!

  Help!
03 October 2008, 12:41 pm

I need to make cupcakes for an 80's themed party next Friday and I am seriously lacking in creativity. (The only thing I can come up with are the rainbow cupcakes done in neon colors)

If you were making 80's themed cupcakes, how would you decorate them? (Also, I'm not the best at decorating but I'm willing to try anything!)

recipe request: thick, chewy, soft oatmeal cookies?
03 October 2008, 02:01 pm

I'm hurting for some really good oatmeal cookies. I want mine thick, chewy and soft but all the recipes I've found that look good call for old-fashioned oats and all I have are those quick-cooking oats. I also don't have any raisins, coconut, peanut butter, chocolate chips or any other delicious add-ins except for slivered almonds so the cookies would really have to stand alone and not be just a base for the add-ins. I looked at the recipes in the archives but all of those oatmeal cookies look very crisp and crunchy, so can anyone recommend a good, tried-and-true recipe that will turn out big, thick, chewy cookies that are soft in the middle, please?

The mother's birthday is Friday and she has requested a yellow cake with a really chocolate-y icing. I was wondering if any chocoholics out there had a recipe for a really good chocolate icing? I would prefer not to use all shortening, but a little is fine. Thank you so much for any advice or recipes! The mom will appreciate it.

Hi there!

Long time lurker, first time poster and I have a request! I'm going to be mailing things to a friend in the next state over and I'm at a loss for what to send. I promised a care package of yummy baked goods, but I'm not too sure what travels well or will keep for the few days it's in transit.

Anything goes for recipes as long as it doesn't include cranberries or honey. ♥

Thank you much!

  Boyfriends Birthday Party
30 September 2008, 04:38 pm

So I'm throwing my boyfriend a surprise birthday party and I need help with the menu and the cake/desserts.

He loves chocolate and Taco Bell, so I was thinking of a mexican-ish (but not so spicy because I do know he doesn't really like super spicy food) buffet and a chocolate cake.

So, any recipes that you think would work would be fantastic.

TIA

  quick and simple cookies/brownies?

Please spam me with your favorite quick n easy cookie/brownie recipes! Looking for things that don't have a lot of ingredients or take a lot of prep...I hate slice-n-bake but I'm baking for a large group and want to be able to bake a lot quickly and cheaply.

  Please help with apple pastry
29 September 2008, 09:44 am
mood: hopeful

Please, does anyone have a tried-and-true apple pastry recipe they can share with me?

My sister requested apple pie for her graduation, and the one I made had an icky crust - dry and flat and unappealing. I want to make her something light and fluffy - possibly a strudel or some other small pastry. Frozen pastry's hard to come by, and expensive. Her graduation's in a week... :( Help?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

First post: Heavy Cream and Praline Paste!

Hello hello! This is my first post to this community after ages of lurking about. So I currently have a lot of heavy whipping cream and praline paste ( found here).

So I was thinking of making some homemade ice cream with some of it and make some deep dark chocolate truffles but I'll still have a lot left over (I don't know what possessed me to double the praline recipe but not the buttercream...or what possessed me to buy the heavy cream in such a large amount)

Can anyone offer any help to a 17 year old baker? Shoot me some recipes? Thanks so much!

And I'm so sorry if this doesn't belong here and belongs in bakex3faq >.

nutty coffee cake not too similar to other fall recipes?
26 September 2008, 01:17 pm

Relatives are arriving for the weekend, and my mom just informed me that (a) there will be lots of baking and (b) I'm doing it all!

Already on the menu:
- pumpkin muffins
- apple tart
- chocolate banana muffins (no nuts)

But they also want a coffee cake. It should have nuts (I'm thinking pecans?), but it can't overlap too much with any of the other recipes, so I'm not sure what to do. They're all kind of heavy on the fall/cinnamon side, but a pecan coffee cake would be too, so . . . this is where you come in? Please?

hey, does anybody mind sharing with/linking me their favorite red velvet cupcake recipes? I'm supposed to take care of desert for my sister's birthday party. also, do you think it's better to use cream cheese frosting with red velvet, or buttercream? I'm thinking I should do buttercream because it'll be easier and I'm not a very good baker, but I'm open to ideas.
thanks!

Hi everyone! It's my cousin's 18th next week, and I'd like to bake her something. I need something gluten-free, though, and I'd also love something with some sort of alcohol in it, since it's her 18th and all! Does anyone have any good recipes for something gluten-free and alcoholic? XP

I hope it's OK to ask here. If it's not, let me know and I'll post it in [info]bakex3faq! ^_^
