Dear fanfic authors,

first of all I’m sorry if OT posting isn’t allowed in this community, but there’s no other way for me to do this; just delete this if it isn’t appropriate.

I’m a fanfic reader and occasional fanfic writer myself, so what did I pick for my thesis in communication sciences? Fan Fiction, of course. I designed a survey to find out more about our writing habits and media use; it takes about 10 minutes to complete.

If you could go here and fill it out, I’d be forever grateful. Of course I’ll publish some of the results at my journal in about a month or two, so you’ll know what happened with your answers.
The survey is completely anonymous; I have no way of finding out who gave which answers.

Please, please help a fellow fan out. It’s only ten minutes for you; it’s a very important part of my work for me.

Hello everyone,

I guess that most of you are interested in Harry Potter fanfictions. IT doesn't matter which pairing you ship or which category you like, all that matters for now is that you like FanFictions.

I've been addicted to FF's for about 3 1/2 years now and still can't get enough but for the last couple of months I noticed a definite lack or overall decrees of quality. This is not supposed to offend anyone - no, we all started somehow.
In addition to the lessening quality (and sometimes quantity) the number of written stories has shot up in no time and by now it's extremely difficult to pick out a good story between a lot of crap (once again, sorry if this offends anyone - it just is partly true).

So I had the idea, to open a community which will collect the real FF's. The classics of every pairing. But I don't mean FF's who're just nice, I mean the "TEH" Stories, the diamonds between mud the stories you read again and again and again and you still never get tired of it. The once you print out and cuddle before going to bed. The ones, one just HAS to have read if he likes that particular pairing.

In my opinion, every ship (by every I mean EVERY, het, slash, femslash ... everything) has it's own Diamonds and we should give credit to them all.

So, I now want to open a community to collect them all so no one needs to look through thousands of others first.

But I need help for that. People, who're just as FF crazy as I am, people with whom I can decide if y story is worth being collected in our archive, people who love diving deep into the HP fandom.

So, first of all, I'll tell you what, in my mind, we need and later I tell you what has to be done in this position.

· Second Maintainer
· Shipping Mods
· Universal Mods
· Graphic Artist(s)

Second Maintainer

The second maintainer is someone who really has time and dedication and a certain amount of knowledge about Harry Potter and FanFictions because I'm in the middle of doing my A Level and therefor it might happen that I suddenly vanish for a few days because a major exam came up.

The Second maintainer is a person who has an eye on everything going on in the community and someone the Mods can turne to if there is a problem.
Of course all this applies for me as well. It would be good, as well, if he (or she ;) ) had a good knowledge of lj so we can make the community reaally pretty.

Shipping Mods

Shipping Mods are mods who are addicted and live and breath only THEIR OTP (One True Pairing). Of course, one can have two OTPs, but you get what I mean. These Mods read through the submitted FF's and decide (in consultation with the rest of the team) if the submitted FF is really worth it.

Universal Mods

The Universal Mods care about the usual stuff that comes along with Moderating a community. They post announcements, the submitted FF's and watch over the discussion posts.
They, as well, are allowed to and encouraged to read the submitted FF's and give in their vote but it's not a total must for them.

Don't wonder about the graphic design stuff, for the beginning, I'll take ofer the job...

where one can vent about fanfiction divas? You know...there's always this little elitest group of writers in every fandom with the "we're the greatest ever and here's why" attitude. They continually pat each other on the back all over livejournal. They expect everyone to give them glowing feedback, but never offer it to anyone who isn't part of their gang. I'm so fed up with these types and want to find a safe place to just lay into them.

Oh, god. Alright, so I only ever read slash fanfics, and it seems as though there are *quite* a few bad ones out there. Especially in the Harry Potter division.

This one was particularily wretched. The reviews page are rather amusing, with all the kiddies praising it and whatnot.

The Rogue Pirate Angelus and Duchess Buffy, scymnus
Summery/Warnings: off screen het and slash, mentions of fisting. It was a match made in Heck. Intentional badfic. Character bashing left and right, but it’s all in good fun. I was trying for 500 words, but went over a bit, I think. Ah well. AU of course. Purple prose. In the sequel, the semi-evil pirate Angelus and Duchess Buffy will have kids! Eww! With Angelus as the pregnant one! This will prolly make you a mite bit quesy. It did me. On with the fic. Ta!
Rating: semi-hard R, I guess

“Unhand me, you foul rogue!” Cried Duchess Buffy, tossing about her golden locks. One of the locks hit the dashing fiend Angelus in the eye, but he healed in seconds, due to evil pirate healing. “You’ll not get into my knickers, you salty sea dog!”
“Duchess Buffy, I presume?” The scandalous, but most dashing rogue said. “Your reputation proceeds you. Let’s go get some chicken and waffles, and get busy.”
“Unhand me, you brute!” Duchess Buffy continued to struggle, although against what the dead sexy pirate really couldn’t say, for no one was holding her. “I must return home with my maidenhead intact. I am to marry Wussly the Swooner tomorrow.”
“He’s in my cabin now, lass.” Angelus, that handsome, shaggable devil said. “And well fucked too. Why me spunk was dribbling out of his sweet boy hole when I left him.”
“Are you a heathen that you would roger another man?”
“Oh please, Buffy, if he was a virgin, then I’m Mary Queen of Scots.”
“Um.”

“Why would a pirate need a man servant?” Duchess Buffy was most curious.
“He keeps Mr. Spike’s crocheting yarn from becoming tangled, and he serves him in the bedroom.”
“Not more rogering, I should hope. It is most unnatural.”
“Pish tosh. What do you know of pirates?”
“Only that you should all be hanged.”
“I would worry about my own neck, Duchess.”
He grabbed the fanfuckingtabulous looking Duchess, and tongue fucked her mouth, with his cold tongue.
“Umph.” She slapped him. He slapped her back. Mr. Spike came over and slapped both of them, before returning to the helm. Ouch. “Ever heard of mentos? Do not kiss me, you fiend! Does my betrothal to Wussly mean nothing to you? Is nothing sacred in the eyes of a pirate?”
“Not really, baby. So about the chicken and waffles?”
“Is there even such a place nearby?”
“Of course. Mr. Spike! Set a course for Chicken and Waffle island.”
“We blew up Chicken and Waffle island last Tuesday, Sire, seeing as how their waffles taste like shite.”
“That is most regrettable, Mr. Spike. Well, not really. Take the helm, Mr. Lindsey, and set a course for Treasure and Waffle island.”
“I wanted to eat some chicken.” Buffy said with a pout.
“You may feast on my cock.” Angelus said with a wink. “No biting though. Please join us, Mr. Spike.”
“I can’t, Sire. I planned on introducing Xan to the joins of fisting.”
“Another time?”
“You betcha.”
“Adieu.”
Mr. Spike took his leave of the daft as a mouse, but still utterly irresistibly shaggable Captain Angelus, and his lovely captive Duchess Buffy. The Captain and the Duchess retired to his cabin for some thankfully off-screen shagging, and rogering, and that sort of thing.
“Oh my, your immense man pole will never fit in my snug passage.”
“You’d be surprised.”
And they all lived happily ever after, except for Duchess Buffy, who fell overboard. Oops! Excuse me while I go vom in the corner.

Not Bad, But Frustrating Fiction

Hi All,

Hope this is okay...just needed to vent. I'm a member of an LJ community for a very specific pairing and right now it's running an xmas exchange. There's a great deal of fic to read, which is wonderful. What's been frustrating is that there are authors posting stories that really have nothing to do with the pairing. These are folks who've never posted there before and seem to be doing it just because the LJ gets major traffic. Sometime the posting is justified..."so and so is mentioned briefly" or "both are in it but not as a pair". Often there's no mention.

The stories are well written and believe me, I know what it's like to desperately want feedback. It just gets a bit annoying to read along and find that the character you've been looking for is only mentioned in one sentence and not even in relation to the other character you like.

Okay...that's all I wanted to get off my chest. Thanks for listening and have a great holiday.
