This may be a novel concept, but my character? Is my character. Here, let me add a little bit more emphasis to that for you. My character? Is my character. That means I get to make choices about her. Like what her name is - isn't that what parents generally do?

I have made one post - ONE POST - with this character when you IM me yelling at me for naming my character wrong. No, it's not that I named her Angstaria Perfektia McSparklypants, it's because I apparently "stole your character's name" and have "ruined everything".

Last time I checked, you didn't have any characters that had a name anywhere close to what this one is named.

I'm sorry, what? The character you were going to create, but had yet to mention to anyone, especially me?

What's that? Your character's intended surname is only somewhat similar to my girl's?

Oh, I'm not sorry that you have to shelf creating your new Sue character for the time being until you think of a new name. But what's this? I should at least give my character a "real" surname, like the one you were going to use?

Aw, geez. Now I am going to have to open up the phonebook I used to pick that surname and call all the people with that name and let them know some girl on the Internet told me it wasn't real. And that the "correct" spelling comes up in Google as an error.

On second thoughts... nah. You're known for making up names on the fly or "making names fancier" - I'm not gonna take any of your "advice".

Die in a fire.

P.S. Oh, and the name you suggested? I finally found it. Apparently it's the name of a small park that was once a rubbish dump. So I don't mind if you name your character that now. ^_^

The whole game was a nightmare, to be honest. If I can't think of anything else to post about this girl ("... didn't your character have a lethal brain tumour that was going to kill him in less than six months? Like, nine months ago?"), I'm sure me and the other refugees can cook something up.

I've been in several nightmare games. Thankfully one of said trainwrecks ended over a month ago. But I still encounter bad RPers quite a bit.

A whole bunch of us made our own exodus and as you can imagine the quality of the game has gone downhill liek woah. It wasn't too bad when we joined over a year ago, but then the mods went crazy and started getting cliquey and driving out all those who knew anything about how to RP well.

Yeah, some people are crazy about names. I don't know what world they live in, but in mine sometimes people have the same surname. Or in the case above, similar ones.

Wowwww retarded. I mean stealing a name from a character that doesn't exist yet or at the very least isn't in the game yet? That's a dubious offense if every I heard of one. Person should change the name of the prospective character. Seriously. It's not ALL that hard.

PS picking names out of an actual phonebook is win. So much better than just making something up that probably isn't a real or plausible name.

It wasn't even the same name to boot! It had a few extra letters and an extra syllable or two that mine didn't. And both were completely original characters.

This girl was insane when it came to names. She had a posh elite character who she expected everyone to know of the family but not have the same/similar surname. She pitched a fit when someone informed her (OOCly) that the surname was one of the 30 most common surnames in America, and top 40 for the UK so there was no way the other player's character could know exactly who this family was as there would be so many with that name.

I write down interesting names at work (customer service emails). My personal favorite, though as yet unused, is Ray Freeze.

My second personal favorite, though I can't use it because, well, for obvious reasons, is Tom Riddle.

Tom M Riddle, actually, I think was the name on his email. I had to just about hide under my desk and laugh for ten minutes straight.

A friend of mine has had a customer called William Shakespeare. It's not like, say, the guy I used to play table tennis with who was called James Potter or anything, and then had to deal with the books coming out.

I have to wonder... not so much with James Potter, which is a common name even now probably, or with Tom Riddle who was probably born before the books came out... but, what parents must be thinking when they name their kids things like that.

It's not like it's a surprise that their last name is Shakespeare or Fungus. (Fungus being one of the boyfriend's high school classmates.) So why would you name your child William, or Richard? I guess William isn't so bad, but Richard Fungus? "What shall we name our son so that he does not get the shit kicked out of him at school?" Yes. Right, then. Anyone care to guess what poor Richard's nickname was?

Kids can make any name into bad nicknames. Way back when my mother gave me a haircut that she thought was cute (a short fringe which could be gelled up a bit... yeah) and all the adults liked it ("Aw, she looks like David Bowie!") but the kids? Took them all of ten minutes to combine my name, Catherine, with "afro", even telling the new trainee teacher that my name was "Afrine".

Until I had gone to school the next day, I loved the haircut. I still hate it to this day, although now that I know who David Bowie is I don't mind as much. I hate the kids though.

Huh. No one at my school turned my name into a bad nickname. Then again, that wasn't something that seemed to happen very often at my school in general. We had the insults, the taunting, the bullying on the school playground, and the cliquishness and snide looks. But no name calling.

Possibly, though, this is also because I was the one sitting on the edge of the playground with my nose in a book and half the time whatever they called me, I didn't hear.

(I was not a schoolkid stereotype. Really.)

I think that most adults mentally block out the fact that 99.9% of human children are born sadists who have no greater joy than seeing other creatures (especially each other) suffer, since they (usually) grow out of it in puberty.

Me? Bitter about being in that 0.1% and being relentlessly picked on all through elementary school? Never.

I worked for the telephone company in Southern California for a few years in the late 60s, early 70s. I was in Directory Assistance. I kid you not - there was a doctor in Los Angeles whose name was Royal Payne.

I often wondered if he became a doctor because of, or in spite of, his name.

My boyfriend once found someone in the phonebook whose surname was Buttfish. And another guy who was named John Outhouse. Maybe this idiot will name her character something like that. :D

I generally make up names for my characters on the fly but I at least come up with ones that sound real and fit the setting :P and then it's always fun to google said names and see what comes up.

Though I'm still amused that last year a Star Wars game came out and the main character had the same first name as one of my Star Wars characters I've been playing for a few years ^^;
