Make your own Magic Shell using bacon (and top with Bacon Salt!)

Yum.

From the article:

Adding fat soluble flavors
Oil based flavors will blend easily with your Magic Shell since it is a mixture of mostly fat. Food grade essential oils are great for this project for that very reason, just use them sparingly as they are very potent. Some flavoring extracts found in grocery stores are oil based vs alcohol based. Just check their labels. I didn’t test alcohol based flavorings. They will probably work, though may run the risk of not staying in solution when the mixture hardens.

Natural sources of flavor (bacon) outside from extracts can be gently heated in coconut oil (bacon) and left in the cooled fat to imbue their flavor (bacon) This is a method used in perfume making as some scents are more soluble in fat than alcohol. Cinnamon, teas, and other whole spices may yield up different flavor notes under this method of extraction.

My friend in the UK sent me these recently. They are actually incredibly tasty.

This weekend I try Baconnaise Deviled Eggs! I am quite excited.

Yeah, "Bacon Flavour Cereal Snacks".
Brilliant!

Okay, I was very skeptical about Baconnaise.
First off, I am not too into sauces in general. I like my veggies naked, my meats in their original happy juices. I also really dislike mayo. I enjoy it in very small quantities as part of a larger recipe but just the smell of it makes me want to puke.

So I got Baconnaise in the mail. Regular and light! (Thanks guys <3).

I opened the light Baconnaise and sniffed it.
Very bacony.
I looked at it and it didn't have the oily sheen of mayo. A good sign.
I dipped my finger in and tried it.

Holy hell it's good. (My sweetie agrees and he doesn't often exclaim happily over condiments).

No... it really is. My mind is reeling with the possibilties. I want to try the Deviled Egg recipe, add it to Beef Stroganoff, stuffed mushrooms, BLTs (of course), savory tarts of some sort. People... this stuff is amazing. Honestly. My little brain is all aflutter thinking of new things to add it to.

I was sort of hoping I wouldn't like it to gain a kind of credibility as more than just a Bacon Salt fangirl. Then I realized I am thrilled to be a Bacon Salt fangirl.

So I took this picture.

I heart Baconnaise.

So I got my Baconsalt lip balm in the mail!

*flaps hands with happiness*

First impressions:

It smells great and the packaging looks really good. It is standard Chapstick consistency so a little stickier than I prefer but once it warms up on your lips that is gone. At first I was a little disappointed that it didn't have a very strong bacon taste to it. Then the subtle hint of smoky flavor hit my tongue. It is pretty wonderful, actually.

I am pleased and will be spreading the bacon balm love.

And for your viewing pleasure, an amazing bacon scarf!

Thanks for the link, Keith. :)

From the Bacon Salt Blog:

For good measure, we finally listened to one of the stranger requests we've gotten and made J&D's Bacon Flavored Lip Balm, which is also included in the gift pack. Yes, now you can make yourself taste like bacon. Believe us when we say that it really, really does taste like bacon. And we're all completely hooked on it now.

At $39.99 this is an affordable gift item for that bacon lover in your life that may make them weep with joy. We hope you enjoy the holiday options available on our website. Happy holiday shopping season!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

I sent them an email asking to buy a ton of this without the gift box. I dunno if they will get it or not now, they aren't as accessible as they once were. (And I am totally cool with that because it means they are successful!)

If you'd like to also ask for lip balm only purchases, that might be cool...

And didn't know about Baconnaise!

I honestly fear it a little bit, because I don't care for mayo. J&D apparently don't either and well, of course I have to try it.

Go! Buy some!

It has gotten to the point where people I don't even know well send me things about bacon (and the ones I do know well spoil me with tons of things about bacon!). Someone asked me the other day, "why so excited about bacon?"

I had to think about it. The first thing I think of is, "Duh... it's bacon. The end." But it is a valid question. I mean, I adore corned beef, high fiber cereal, hearts of palm, butter, toast, frosting... but I don't have clothing and accessories and statues and a tattoo upcoming to celebrate any of those things.

So, why bacon?

I think it is one of the few truly hedonistic pleasures we have left that is legal, affordable and socially acceptable. Well... perhaps not acceptable in all circles.

Then there is the fact that the only reason to put bacon in your mouth is the taste and the texture. You can't pretend that it is good for you in any way and all that fat opens up your taste buds to accept the bountiful presence of salt and flavor. It's a sensual experience: tactile, olfactory, taste, aural (the sound of sizzling bacon) and sight. Bacon exists for nothing but your selfish indulgence.

For me there's also the fact that we only had bacon in my house on special occasions. It was a big deal and a breakfasty deal when we had it. I adore real breakfasts and bacon makes it that much more luxurious. I feel rich and pampered when I eat bacon.

And I suppose there is some level of embracing a rebellion against being healthy. Sure, I watch what I eat and I pay attention to fat and calories. But there is no such thing as low fat bacon (if you say "turkey bacon" on my journal I will be sorely vexed. That is NOT bacon). There's Bacon Salt which is the best of all worlds, but Bacon Salt is not the same as bacon. Bacon Salt is fantastic, of course, but it occupies a different part of my heart -- the part that wants to have my bacon and not get fat from it too.

Bacon is a throwback to sweaty, frantic, orgiastic excess and I love it.

So, a couple of weeks ago, I used the product tracker on the Bacon Salt website to find me summa this savory seasoning. I had to drive out of town since I live in Bumblescum, USA, but the reward was well worth the expense.

I've been baconizing dill pickle spears lately, but I'm most proud of my latest project:

I give you the Bacon Mary, extra spicy edition.

Regardless, cheers, Bacon Salt lovers!

Apologies for the cross-posting, guys.

This recipe is dedicated to the Bacon Salt Fairy, KolMohDee, and all the other bacon-fetish-having Kingdom of Loathing /radio bunnies.

Ingredients (per person - multiply to suit your dining needs):

2 rashers of bacon
2 cloves of crushed garlic
1 pinch of salt
2 finely-chopped hot chillis (or less, if you are a pussy)
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
1 handful of chopped spring onions
1 handful of pasta, preferably spirals

Method:

Chop the bacon into pieces about half an inch wide. Fry the bacon in a large pan until the pieces are crispy around the edges, and there is a lot of juice in the pan.

Add the crushed garlic, sliced chillis, and a pinch of salt, and fry in the bacon juice with the bacon for twenty seconds. Add the tinned tomatoes and bring to a low simmer.

Boil some water and add the pasta. Boil on high for the recommended time (check the packet for details).

Simmer the sauce for about twenty minutes, to increase the gravy consistency. Before serving, add the sliced spring onions and heat through.

Serve with the pasta, and enjoy.
