For those of you fans that don't already know, just before Christmas, Bettie (who is 84 years old now) was admitted to a hospital, suffering from a combination of pneumonia and a kidney infection. Bettie has improved slightly but is still unable to speak. In mid-January, she was moved to a nursing home where she is still receiving a lot of care. Let's all put her in our
thoughts and prayers.

Sex Workers Art Show Feb 1st at Eyedrum

The Sex Workers' Art Show will be in Atlanta February 1st at Eyedrum. Featuring Dirty Martini, World Famous *BOB*, Keva I. Lee, Lorelei Lee, Chris Kraus, Erin Markey, Annie Oakley, Krylon Superstar, Tre Vasquez and Trina.

The show is an eye-popping evening of visual and performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel the myth that they are anything short of artists, innovators and geniuses. The wildly successful cabaret-style show brings audiences a blend of spoken word, music, burlesque and multimedia performance art. Intelligent and hot, disturbing and hilarious, the performances offer a wide range of perspectives on sex work, from celebration of prostitutes' rights and sex-positivity to views from darker sides of the industry.

The show includes people from all areas of the sex industry: strippers, prostitutes, dommes, film stars, phone sex operators, internet models, etc. It smashes traditional stereotypes and moves beyond "positive" and "negative" into a fuller articulation of the complicated ways sex workers experience their jobs and their lives. The Sex Workers' Art Show entertains arouses, and amazes while simultaneously offering scating and insightful commentary on notions of class, race, gender, labor and sexuality.

First, thank-you for helping Big City get our classic image of
burlesque out there. We greatly appreciate it.
Now for the request, several of us have a few characters that we
portray. It is important to keep each one separate from the other. I
understand that it is easier to label one gal as her main character,
but it tends to create some confusion. An example: As of late Iron
Lily (the one with the brown pony fall) has been labeled as Diamond
Ice (the blonde fan dancer). These are two totally different
characters, though I am the same woman playing them. Please help us
keep befuddlement down by placing the correct character's name with
the photograph. If you would be so kind as to pass the word along,
that to would be a great help.

WITH ITS ROOTS in early 20th-century vaudeville, the modern burlesque revival is a throwback form of entertainment. And the art of striptease and feather dances is as popular today as it was in the '40s with groups like Atlanta's own Big City Burlesque honoring the spirit of the times with vintage costumes and performances set to period jazz and swing music.
The troupe offers a night of all things burlesque this weekend with Big City's Diamond Ice and Veronica Lashe being joined onstage by members of Atlanta's Blast-Off Burlesque and Charlotte's Big Mamma's House of Burlesque.
But the pasties and corsets won't be confined to the stage with an art and photography show featuring works by the likes of Joe "Photognome" Hunt and Big City founder Kenton McGee, the Big City Shake Off that allows fans to shake their stuff for prizes, and auctions and raffles for items ranging from tattoos to massages. DJs Spider and Aesthetic will provide retro tunes during performances and industrial and new-wave dance between sets.
