Title: O Pioneer Author: Sternel Character: Abbey Bartlet Rating: G Pairings: N/A Summary: Every dream has to start somewhere. AN: Much of the background information came from the wonderful and extremely readable book Polio: An American Story, by David M. Oshinsky (Oxford University Press, 2005), which I highly recommend to anyone curious about the polio epidemic and vaccine trials. The Smithsonian also has a great website up here, with some terrific pictures. (Especially if you were a history major like me.) The PA announcement at the end takes its wording directly from a press conference on April 12, 1955, announcing the results of the polio trials. Many thanks to athena4lynn and nnaylime for their magnificent beta work.

There is a fairly large fandom/fanfiction poll on my journal. If you're looking for something to do besides write your b4td fic, head on over. It is an unlocked post, for those of you not on my friends list (not to say that you're less because of this, please don't take it personally). For those of you that are on my FL, it is one of the posts for today.
I'd like to get a multitude of answers from various fandoms, so pass this along if you like. Have fun!!

| "Pivotal Evening" (Annabeth) |
[18 May 2007|10:58pm] |
TITLE: Pivotal Evening AUTHOR: 38gnihsurc RATING: pea.gee for language (and alcoholic drinks?) CHARACTER: Annabeth Schott (and Leo and Matt Gottfried are also sorta in this) DISCLAIMER: I don't own anyone! SPOILERS: None. TWW general. NOTES: 1. Thank you to docfraiser8 for encouraging me and for helping me with the post-production. 2. I don't remember politics in the early 1990s; I didn't do too much research, either. So, if I screwed up... if the State of the Union speeches weren't focused on Foreign Policy, I apologise. 3. I am from Canada and I spell some words with u's---I know it's not the American way, but even though this is an American-setting, I'm not changing it. I'm set in my ways. 4. This story centers on Annabeth during her art history days. 5. I picked Savannah College of Art and Design for her school, although I have no idea what school Annabeth attended to study art history. 6. Laurie Schneider Adams is an art historian who writes books about psychoanalysis of art. 7. Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Cerulean and Prussian Blue are all paint colours. 8. I made up the bit about Annabeth being at O'Hare when the AA DC-10 crashed. Clearly. 9. Oh, and I kinda swiped part of a Willow-from-BtVS line for Annabeth, near the end.
(It took her a little longer than she expected to drag her too-well-packed suitcase up the three flights of stairs to the apartment she shared with her friends.)

Title: Forging the Future Author: Christine Character: Margaret Pairings: None Spoilers: Tiny one for ITSOTG Disclaimer: Not mine, never mine. Feedback: Always welcome
Notes: Thanks to Bex and Yana for the beta. And to Em for confirming Bex's opinion that no matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't make Margaret the next Miss Moneypenny.

Only one week remaing to choose your character(s). If you've already chosen a character, and you think maybe you could handle two, choose a second one.
Tell all your friends. Bribe them, beg them, plead with them with sad little puppy eyes and whimpers galore.

Okay. Two characters are now closed (at least until one of the fics is written).

*** Also?! For those of you who are worried that maybe your Muse will be out of town when it comes down to actually writing your fic, I'm offering a Prompt Service. Let me know if you need a little nudging and I'll try to come up with something.
I would also like to know if there are members willing to beta stories if an author requests it. If you're willing, please comment to this post.

Congrats to all those who've finished on time. I'm loving the fics. Will comment after I get a chance to read through everything.
There will be an extension for those who haven't finished. Hopefully all fics can be posted by the end of this year. I'm not gonna get snippy about it though. If you're relatively sure that you won't be able to finish the fic, please let me know though.
If there was a character you wanted to write and didn't have the chance to from the beginning of the ficathon, feel free to claim that character and write the fic. I'll be leaving this community open after the ficathon is entirely over for any fiction that is written pre-administration.
Thanks to everyone for participating! Keep writing/reading/commenting.
