Boston FD is a real bunch of heroes.
Thursday night my triple decker in Forest Hills nearly burnt down - nearly, because the Boston FD saved the building. Nobody was home, but apparently a couple of firemen were injured. The news story about it says they're expected to be okay.

I lost a lot, other people in other units lost more and less than I did. But those are possessions. We all have our lives.

This isn't so much an attention plea as much as it is a first-hand account of how we have a really great fire department. Thank them for laying their lives on the line day in, day out - I know I did.

Gotta say, fire protection is one of those things that my tax dollars go to that I don't resent one little bit.

Couple years back, we had a fire in the kitchen of the first floor of our house in Melrose. Fire department was here in maybe ninety seconds after we called 'em. Fire was out maybe five minutes later.

First floor kitchen needed to be gutted; whole house needed to be repainted.

No injuries, not of people, not of any of the half-dozen cats who lived throughout the house.

They saved the whole house. I LIKE the fire department. They're real good folks.

Hooray for the Melrose Fire Department! My family's been on the force for generations. My grandfather still can't give up his scanner - he needs it "just in case".

OH HOLY CRAP. I am so glad you are OK! I hope you have friends or family in the area you can stay with...and I hope you had insurance, and good luck replacing all your clothes and stuff. :-/

Man. That sucks.

If you need a cheap place to stay, I could be of assistance. I'm talking less than $300.00 per month.

Email me at Magg1es at yahoo dot com (the 1 is a one)

Free drugs, booze and hookers for all BFD members, says I. And not skanky Blue Hill Ave hookers, either; let's get some quality poon up in there for the boys and girls. Anyone who runs *in* to a burning building for a living needs it.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't as bad as it could have. We had the triple-decker across the street from us nearly burn down last summer - if you watched the FOX (I think) reality show where they featured Boston firefighters, the house burning in the last scene is the one across from us.

I'm glad you're okay. Stuff can be replaced. You cannot.

Was that on Tower Street? I was on Woodlawn and could hear all the sirens and the smoke filled our house. I had no idea what was going on and our street was all blocked off, too. I am so glad no one in your home was hurt! They really did have a lot of emergency crews there, I was very impressed with that. Sorry to hear a few of the firefighters were injured, I hope they are doing better.

That's really tough :(

All of the fire fighters I've met have been really good people, and they definitely deserve to be thanked for putting their lives on the line.

I'm so glad you're all all right, it was pretty scary (i'm at 41 tower and the smell woke me up)
What started it? Was it your cat who is/was missing?

We're all doing okay, but if you feel the need to donate - send it to the BFD.
