a question about etiquette / mbta
please discard or disregard your conclusions and assumptions you have of me as a person and consider answering seriously....(at least at first!)
i was on the T today eating a bagel with peanut butter, listening to my ipod, reading that Metro rag. A woman sitting diagonally accross from me waved to get my attention. Normally I dont respond to people like this...but it was early and I wasn't 100% yet LOL. She told me that I shouldn't eat peanut butter in public because someone could have a an allergy. My instinct was to tell her to mind her business and that if someone has an allergy they better get off at the next stop! But i bit my tongue and just gave her a dirty look and continued eating. I was mildly offended by this chick trying to tell me (a stranger) what to do.
Now, I'm well aware of the legitimacy and severity of peanut allergies. my general feeling is that if you got it, you should have one of those pens or an inhaled steroid to counter a reaction. In other words, the individual is responsible for their own safety not the 100 people around them. In no way should 100 people pander to 1 individual. Thats a rediculous thing to expect or ask.
If you guys were in my position, what would you have said/done?
