central square with the what now?
what the hell happened in central square this morning? i rounded the corner onto mass ave by harvest and there were police cars, ambulances and firetrucks everywhere, and three or four oil trucks backed up down the block (though the latter may have just been timing traffic-wise). i checked boston.com cuz i'm not new here, but i didn't see anything.

'course, it may have just not been updated yet.

anyway, anyone know what was going on?

I questioned the same thing as my bus driver went the wrong way down a one way street, and then continued on a magical detour journey navigated by other passengers who were yelling out directions.

According to everyone's favorite transit website there was a "pedestrian accident." (I think that's what nice people say when they're referring to someone getting nailed by a car.)

I have little further info but a star market tractor trailer was involved. I believe hitting a pedestrian.

Hmm. Perhaps we were on the same bus.

I fully expected to be late for work, but my bus driver was so gung ho about going places, such as in front of oncoming traffic or squeezed against the side of buildings, signs, or parked cars, that I managed to not be particularly late. Although I'm sure all the people waiting at bus stops that the dude just kinda drove past were not quite so punctual as I.

Woooo MBTA drama and adventure and on the high seas!

The real question is this:

Was the pedestrian an idiot jaywalker? Or did a maniac run a red light?

My money is on the former.

I think you're justified in being irked. This is a city. Police get dispatched to places on a daily basis. Sometimes, you'll happen to pass by. It's not a big deal. There's no need to notify all your close LJ friends.

i cant help but not give a damn about some moron who got hit by a truck. rules of crosswalks, right of way, yields, bad lights etc, there is no way that if he had looked both ways before walking into the street, paused for traffic that didn't look like it was stopping, he would not have gotten smashed. chances are he was just one of the many dumb asses who just walk right out into the street without even looking all over Boston, let alone paying attention to see if driver's even see them. am I the only one that does this before stepping off a curb?

Personally I feel bad for the truck driver, he'll prob loose his job, get sued by the family, have the emotional trauma of squashing someone on his conscious not to mention i would think they pull your cdl if you kill a pedestrian just becuase some dumb ass didn't look both ways and believed more int he rule of law than the laws of physics.

If the accident happened the way people here are reconstructing it, the pedestrian was in the crosswalk with a WALK signal, and was hit by a truck whose driver was not paying proper attention.

Some folks here including me speculated about the truck driver possibly being blinded by early morning low sun. However, some folks on Universal Hub say this can't be the case if the accident happened at 6:45 am, because sunrise today was at 6:52.
