It may be ridiculous, but they are still being charged with crimes, and prison time is not a laughing matter. I really can't believe their lawyer didn't just say they weren't accepting questions.

In the video of the press conference on You Tube the lawyer did mention they were told not to talk about it. (Near the end.)I see your pint though.

Agreed.

Personally, I don't find them local hipster heroes, I find them juvenile.

The city of Boston already looks moronic for overreacting to an ad campaign and stirring up an unnecessary media firestorm. Now the "perpetrators" treat the situation with a total lack of respect and make us look like bigger loonies. Even if the situation itself (a cartoon ad mistaken for a bomb) was unintentionally hysterical, they actually had a serious opportunity to comment on alarmism and the sad, degenerative state of our country in "POST 9/11 WE MUST FEAR SHAMPOO AND BABY FORMULA ON INTERCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS" hysteria.

Instead, they'd rather give ammo to people who think Bostonians are just fashionable, fight-the-establishment-cause-it's-the-establishment liberals... instead of occasionally intelligent, thoughtful ones.

Ugh. Sorry, if they were witty maybe it wouldn't bother me. But I think there's a difference between witty, sarcastic commentary and being the juvenile class clown.

i agree here, but i also feel they're in a tough place. using this as a chance to comment on such a state borders on them actually talking about the case. since they were advised to not comment on the case, it wouldnt be easy to take such a stand, so they took the easy way out.

good article here: http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/BO41843/

Apparently he did say something "real":

But as he walked off, Berdovsky gave a more serious comment.

"We need some time to really sort things out and, you know, figure out our response to this situation in other ways than talking about hair," Berdovsky said. "So if you could just give us some privacy for a little bit. ... I will be trying to make sense of all it real soon."

they're not obligated to be witty urbane enlightening public speakers. they got arrested for a ridiculous reason, are probably (or i would be, at least) furious, and just dismissing the whole thing as nonsense. maybe next time jon stewart will get arrested and you won't have to suffer such disappointment

They should, however, have some sense of obligation to not contribute to the perception of Bostonians as fricking morons who don't know cartoons from bombs and a press conference from a direct-to-video version of "Half Baked."

Regardless, for their own sake, showing class and dignity in the face of unfair persecution usually engenders more sympathy than "nyah nyah nyah you stuffy lame-o journalists!"

they've been arrested by boston for hanging up lite-brites; i don't see why they would have any interest at all in making boston look good.

and you are quite right, this probably cost them a lot of sympathy. but one hopes the jury is not swayed by sympathy so much as by -- near as i can tell -- the fact that the only law they broke was trespassing, when they hung those things up. clearly they don't have much interest in the sympathy of random people watching the news.

The reasoning behind the arrest might have been ridiculous, but they were still arrested!! You wouldn't openly be rude to a judge, would you? Only an idiot would, because that would not put you in his good favor. If these guys want to be let off of this ridiculous charge, maybe they should show some respect and keep their mouths shut!
