Burglary in Inman Square
I had my laptop stolen from my room last night by someone who got in through my bedroom window which abuts a porch.

I called in a police officer to take a report, and he said that there have been several break ins in the area.

Please, lock your doors, lock your windows when you're not home if they're easily accessible from the outside. Report any suspicious activity to the police, even if it seems like it's not a big deal. And get renter's insurance if you have anything valuable.

I never realized that locking my doors wasn't enough.

Good luck everyone. Be safe.

Thanks, I'm really a lot less concerned about my laptop, and a lot more concerned about the fact that someone can just walk in through my window.

I'm on the second floor, so it didn't even cross my mind. Unfortunately, someone left the back door to the house (not the apt) open, and the thief got in that way. I never use the back staircase unless I'm doing laundry, so I didn't even know.

I'm definitely going to be checking it from now on.

A friend told me that Home Depot sells items that you can attach to a window in order to lock it into a certain state of openness (i.e. only open enough for air flow, but not enough for someone to get through).

Maybe you and your roommate can look into it, as I am. That way she can have her air, and you can have your safety.

The other day I realized the people living upstairs have been leaving our back door unlocked. Nice huh?

Thanks for the tip on the window locks. I'll definitely look into those. We have these alarm things on the windows that go off when the window is opened... meaning you have to keep the windows closed for the alarms to be useful. Works for wintertime anwyay.

Something similiar with my neighbors: I'm on the 3rd floor, they're on the 2nd. Our apartment front door is RIGHT on freaking Tremont Street in Roxbury. What do they do? When they're expecting company (which is seemingly every other day) they prop the front door open with a brick! Sorry guys, but I'm not going to get robinated because you're too lazy to answer the doorbell.

My landlord, who lives on the first floor of our house, had his laptop stolen last week in very similar circumstances, and we're not far from Inman Square...

It was out of place. If the person had implied that they were concerned because of the ethnic background of the neighbors, then your remark would have been funny. Now you just look like an asshole.

You probably have a hard time getting someone to "suck it" because you must be a very, very, ugly person(meaning by your personnality and by the way it looks like you treat people)

I don't know what to say sometimes
when racism rears it's ugly head unexpectedly.

That comment was just shockingly offensive.

Sounds like a good idea. I need me some guard trolls.

....or maybe just a large dog.

Stupid no pets policy.
