I'm posting to make everyone aware of a malicious flyer that's circulating. From the information I've gathered, its been confined to Glendale only. Basically it is a bright-orange tag that reads:

"Sorry we missed you...While you were out, agent 4409 stopped by on behalf of... the Office of Total Information Awareness is checked.  "Because you were out, we decided to ...inspect your trash" is checked (there are a variety of choices).  "As a result of our visit ... You are considered a "person of interest" and may be subject to monitoring, media harassment, etc. Again, we are sorry we missed you, but rest assured, we know where you live.  For more information: www.AZTIPHOTLINE.INFO."  It ends with the seals of Homeland Security, Social Security and the Dept. of Justice.

I wanted to scan it, but I went out for the evening and when I got home, it was gone. Anyway, it was quite bizarre (obviously) and I searched the website and found that there have been numerous reports of these tags that began cropping up immediately before the Super Bowl and that the website listed contains malware, so best to not go there. My husband went to the website before we found this information, and it basically is just a government conspiracy site (but he's doing a virus check to be sure). I just thought I'd share the info because we and all of our neighbors were totally baffled as to what it was as it sounded too bizarre to be real, but we all wanted to know exactly what it was. We still don't know who put it there, though, or why.

Trust me... if you're a "person of interest" to Homeland Security, either they're gonna pick you up or you're never going to know.
They don't leave love notes.

That's just bizarre.

When I take over the world, summary execution of shitbags who pull stunts like this will be perfectly legal.

You didn't actually look into this at all, did you? A few of the sheep freak out, the media senses a money making story and runs with it. You follow suit.

Did you look at the site at all? I did. Links to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Links to the ACLU. Links to information about the government's wiretapping you. Links to information on how the government is completely shredding our constitution for our "protection". I suppose you can't get much more "malicious" than that.

I've just spent the past few minutes looking over the source code for the website. I've yet to find malware. I've found plenty of text, however, that will freak the hell out of the common sheep who is unable to think for him- or herself, causing them to immediately go paranoid.

I have no problem with someone making a web site that exposes the way our government violates our privacy and Constitutional rights. I think people absolutely should be doing this kind of thing.

I would, however, have a BIG problem with people posting flyers on my door fraudulently claiming to be government agents and claiming that I am under surveillance. You want to criticize the government? Fine! You want to pretend to *be* the government and scare the crap out of innocent citizens? Not remotely fine. Scare tactics don't sway me to anyone's point of view.

I think Minister of Harsh Words is better. More concise, less ambiguous, etc.

Though I doubt they actually went through your trash, but all the more reason so shred anything that has your name and address on it.

... Malware? I don't think so.

"TIC was designed to latch on to every single person in the United States and siphon off all pertinent information regarding their habits, contacts and beliefs to be measured against our ever more accurate profile database to determine their propensity to disobey and monitor them completely 24/7/365 for life and thereafter."

This is so incredibly awesome, I would distribute these flyers myself!

First off, if you're going to link to a site that supposedly contains malware, its considered polite to say this before giving out the URL.

Secondly, it doesn't contain malware. Or atleast not any capable enough to infect the unpatched Windows box I use to analyze that junk.
