Title: Gilead
Author: Yahtzee
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Spoilers: the show's over--does it matter anymore? ;-)
Summary: Two people find each other again in a broken world, but can they save each other too?
Link: Gilead
Why: Because while I would never have thought of this crossover, it works so well it's scary and the result is one of the best apocalyptic XF fics ever not to include aliens. *g*
Title: The Witness
Author: Michele Martin
Pairing: Starman/Jenny, umm...maybe a dash of Duncan/Anne and Nick/Nat but not much
Summary: Take one vampire cop, several Immortals, one half-alien witness to a Quickening and two FBI agents way out of their jurisdiction, mix well...and then have Sam leap into Schanke.
Link: The Witness
Why: How many crossovers do you know that could juggle FIVE fandoms and treat them all fairly? With cameos by a few more? Yeah. That's what I thought. *grin*
Title: The Magician
Author: Suzanne Bickerstaffe and Jennifer Lyon
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Summary: Investigating the appearance of a "gargoyle" at a DC lab sends Mulder and Scully on an interdimensional odyssey, to a realm they are fated to save, a realm that is fated to change them forever.
Link: The Magician
Why: You know that epic I've been working on forever? The fantasy AU Stargate one? This is, ultimately, the root cause of it, and its magic hasn't faded since I stopped being a M/S 'Shipper, which should tell you something. *g*

"Umbra" by Dawson E. Rambo (The X-Files)

  • Oct. 29th, 2005 at 9:47 PM
Title: Umbra
Author: Dawson E. Rambo
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Summary: Just how far would you go to save the world?
Link: Umbra
Why: This is one of the classics of the fandom, and with good reason: a nail-biting, stunningly plotted thriller more complex and gripping than many published novels. It's just a pity the author never did finish the sequel. :-/
Title: Them Mean Ol' Low Down Lando Calrissian Blues
Author: Yahtzee
Pairing: slight hints of Clark/Lex
Spoilers: umm...nothing recent
Summary: Token black guys bond while their white co-stars are preoccupied.
Link: Them Mean Ol' Low Down Lando Calrissian Blues
Why: Because Yahtzee does satire as well as she does angst, which says a lot! Plus, oblivious!Clark and some decent "screentime" for Pete! ;-)
Title: Who Watches the Watchers?
Author: Kim Sefcik
Pairing: none
Summary: Chance's luck sucks him into a mystery of staggering proportions, and brings to light a few secrets the Watchers didn't even want Joe to know.
Link: Who Watches the Watchers?
Why: Of the very small amount of Strange Luck fic out there, most of it involves crossovers, and this remains one of the most engaging, IMO.
Title: Someone to Watch Over Me/Siege
Author: Laura Picken
Pairing: none that I remember...maybe a dash of M/S UST
Summary: A trip to Cascade brings out some surprising new abilities in Mulder and Scully. (Inspired by Lifeline)
Link:
Someone to Watch Over Me
Siege
Why: There's that telepathy fic kink again. *grin* And this story was what got me into The Sentinel fandom (before I'd ever seen the series), as well as what inspired me to go back and read Lifeline.
Title: Parallel Catastrophes
Author: Vanzetti
Pairing: Krycek/Marita, Lucius/Narcissa
Summary: Marita lives in the shadow of the impending end of both her worlds.
Link: Parallel Catastrophes
Why: Jossed by Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince, but still deliciously irreverent and it makes so much dang *sense* for these people to be related/connected the way they are. *g*
Title: A Couple of Head Cases
Author: Anne Hedonia
Pairing: Doggett/Scully
Spoilers: S8
Summary: Why they were late for work.
Link: A Couple of Head Cases
Why: Short, extremely funny DSR AU PWP. (or alphabet soup, your call ;-))
Title: The Last Worthless Evening
Author: Anne Hedonia
Pairing: Doggett/Scully, Mulder/Scully implied
Summary: "A necessary emotional arrangement."
Link: The Last Worthless Evening
Why: Considered by many (me included) to be the definitive DSR fic, and one that doesn't ignore Mulder's place in the equation.
Title: Not My Lover
Author: Deslea R. Judd
Pairing: Krycek/Marita
Summary: Lover is too cheap a word to describe what they are to each other.
Link:
Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI | Part VII | Afterword
Why: Deslea is the queen of the Krycek/Marita 'ship and this is her magnum opus.
