( The icons. )

I apologize sincerely if this isn't allowed here. I have read the rules, and I figured it applied to: "-Entries linking to articles, websites, services, or products which would be of interest or value to those interested in Ayn Rand's novels and philosophy."
If this is considered off topic or SPAM, let me know, and I will delete it immediately upon notification.

It always amuses me when people take someone else's likeness (the rights to which belong to some other photographer or filmmaker) do some cheap photoshopping, make it into an icon, and then have the gall to try to assert some right to tell others what they can or can't do with it.

In an Ayn Rand community, I find this especially amusing.

The no-alteration means don't change them and then credit me with the altered version.

Does that mean it is off-topic, or are you just trying to be an ass without warrant?

No, he's pointing out that you obviously have no idea what the woman was about by these very actions.

Because I made LiveJournal icons?

Look, I'm willing to accept any other analytical theories you might like to spew out about me, but claiming that I'm ignorant to Rand's philosophy due to the fact that I use Photoshop (for non-profitable uses) every now and then when I'm bored is a bit too ridiculous for me.

Sorry you're getting a hard time from busybodies who know not how to apply Objectivism, much less conduct themselves with civility.

I've been on a lovely, months-long hiatus from LJ; maybe I should go back to it.

This is why I don't actively participate in LJ communities.

I just don't see the logic behind it. To me, that's like saying I'm ignorant to what she was about because I clipped out pictures from a magazine and glued them on to a posterboard one day out of want for something to do.

I could understand if I were claiming any artistic pretension over it, or trying to make a profit from it, but the fact remains that they are totally non-profit and recreational. So, I am really puzzled here.

Most likely it's attributable to an unworthy imitative impulse in the Objectivist movement to overreact to any unauthorized use of Ayn Rand's name, ever since Ayn Rand blew a gasket over early fans starting unofficial clubs to study her ideas, which supposedly would lead to attendees taking the organizers' opinions to be her own. (Quasi-citation: Google Henry Holzer, then Rand's attorney.)

I wish more people would recognize their vague evaluative responses to be emotional reactions warrant logical exploration far more than publication. (I will resist saying, "But then, this is the internet." Intellectual standards are not media dependent.)
