Stalinist Soviet Skyscrapers

Hey Everyone

I'm going to be a real cheater and link another blog that I found really impressive,
the site has both sketches for buildings they never got to build and many of the buildings that were completed
I'd love to pass it off as my own work but that would be very lame :)

Stalinist Soviet Skyscrapers

On another note I hope you all got to see the Lunar eclipse lastnight! It was amazingly beautiful

to build this one they demolished Russia's largest church, The Church of Christ The Savior (now restored), but since the construction never really started for more than 50 years, there was a huge public swimming pool there instead.

speaking of the the things giant, check out the Parliament Building in Bucharest, Romania - the largest building in Europe by the way; it is unfinished, the final design was meant to be crowned with the golden statue of their dictator, Chaushesku I think was his name. Stalin could only dream about it.

Sounds great :)

We stood ontop of a hill in the wind and rain freezing our butts off
but it was worth it

Would you like to pass it off as your own?

Anyway, if you're interested in the history of the project for the Palace of the Soviets see the article "Ever Higher": The Evolution of the Project for the Palace of Soviets by Sona Stephan Hoisington in Slavic Review, Vol. 62, No. 1. (Spring, 2003), pp. 41-68.

It gives a nice overview of the project and how the building got that particular shape while the first design was modernist instead of this socialist-realist style. I can e-mail it to you if you're interested.

Haha I would of liked to have written the article myself - as in having discovered the information myself rather then just seeing a link to it and reading it :)

Mostly I just sought to make sure the original author was credited with the work rather then I

I would be interesting in that article - feel free to email it to my email in my profile if it is of no hassle to you :)
