We've all heard of NaNoWriMo and many of us who have given it a try do so because we thrive on the challenge, the deadline and the community of writers we meet along the way. It's an exhilarating experience that comes and goes so fast many times you're left wanting more. Or maybe November isn't the best month for you and you're left wishing you could be part of it or you'd like to have same excitement throughout the rest of the year.

That's where the Awesome Autumn Writing Challenge comes in. It here to provide a challenge and a forum for those who are part of NaNo or want a challenge longer than a month. It's a fun community to keep you motivated and challenged through out the autumn months. Besides, who can resist an awesome challenge? ;)

This challenge is both easier and harder than NaNo. Harder because there's more words to write, easier because there's more time. autumnwrite asks for 150,000 words in roughly four months. 150,000 words is, pre-Major Edit, about novel-length (generally speaking -- genres vary, and nobody knows how much they'll end up cutting and adding in the re-writes). This can be done in conjunction with NaNo because words are words and we don't mind if they count for both! The point is to challenge yourself to write so consider this a jump start or back up plan to NaNo because if you can't get 50,000 in one month, maybe you can get 150,000 in four. ;)

This Community is inspired by and affiliated with summerwrite the Super Summer Writing Challenge created by inkedover. We were so impressed with her summer challenge that we wanted to carry it year round to keep feeding the muses. Sign-ups are open throughout the whole challenge, but hurry and join! The challenge begins on September 1 and ends December 31. To sign up, join and friend the comm, then respond to this post. We would like all members who are seriously going to participate to respond to that post, please. We want to get an idea of numbers not to mention we're very excited to meet you! :D

Obviously there will be much more to come as we get closer to the start up date. We will be adding the prerequisite Great Information Post of DOOM where we will fill you in on all the rules, schedules, plans and everything else we can think of. We will have competition groups for people to compete within the community as well as awards, challenges and all the other fun stuff that you would expect. We will also have chatrooms for inspiration, writing wars and general camaraderie.
