Suicide, not neglect, coroner rules
Bridgewater, England:

BBC Article

The West Somerset coroner ruled that staff was not neglectful of 17 year old Timothy Whattler, who committed suicide while under their care in a psychiatric institution. However, the coroner noted that more training is necessary and recommended increased safety procedures.

This was my son. Whilst in this unit (he was only there for 6 hours before he killed himself) he asked for medication on 2 occasions due to being agitated and it was refused, and he self harmed by cutting his arms 25 times with a razor. They told him that was not an acceptable way to behave and he was shown no sympathy or care. He was put in a room with 10 ligature points and left with his shoelaces, and this was a child who had tried on the Tuesday of that week to kill himself. Our opinion is that the psychiatric unit were totally responsible for his death. He should never have died where he did, when he did. He was my only child!!
