Launches April 15 on iTunes LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Twentieth Century Fox and renowned filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, the Oscar® nominated director of Moulin Rouge and William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, are collaborating on a special series of 10 podcasts that will follow the making of the epic film AUSTRALIA, on which Luhrmann is writer, producer and director.
The "Set to Screen Series with Baz Luhrmann," launching today on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com), is designed to educate and inspire high school and college filmmakers, taking them behind the scenes of AUSTRALIA, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - and inside the creative process of Luhrmann and his production team.

Every few weeks through October, aspiring filmmakers can explore AUSTRALIA's on-set photography, costume design, cinematography, scoring, editing, and more. In addition, students inspired by what they've learned from the podcasts will be invited to create and share their own film projects for a chance to join Luhrmann on the film's promotional tour and have their project included in AUSTRALIA's DVD release as well as other rewards.

20th Century Fox has set a preliminary American release date for Australia - 14 November 2008.

So far it does not appear that Australia will undergo a simultaneous worldwide release in all countries. As with all dates, it may be subject to change. However, with this confirmation from the studio the countdown (for USA release) can begin!

December 15th, 2007

We previously reported that Sir Elton John might contribute music to Australia. Though it first appeared in jest, it now appears a more serious offer and we just might see Elton collaborating with Baz Luhrmann once again! It has been revealed that Elton would “jump at the chance of writing a love song” for the movie, and this week he visited the Fox Studios set to meet with Baz. Elton and partner, David Furnish, were also taken to a private screening room to watch a ten-minute rough assembly of scenes, and they both think that “Australia could become like Titanic on dry land”.

On the day of their visit, Baz Luhrmann was filming close-ups of the ‘Mission Ball’ sequence, featuring Nicole Kidman in a stunning red gown designed by Baz’s wife and creative collaborator, Catherine Martin. Some scenes had already been shot back in May 2007 on location at Sydney’s Strickland House, which we know will double as Darwin’s Government House in the film. A mammoth, end-of-shooting wrap party is expected to took place last weekend in advance of the Australia shoot coming to an end this week.

Faraway Downs Goes Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

Baz Luhrmann has unleashed a pink spotlight over the country by illuminating the set [click for larger] of his motion picture Australia to support breast cancer research and the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s annual Pink Ribbon Campaign.

The mythical homestead ‘Faraway Downs’ featured in the film, and housed on Stage 7 at Sydney’s Fox Studios, forms part of the 2007 Estée Lauder Global Illumination program. Since this project was launched by Evelyn Lauder in 2000 hundreds of famous landmarks in over 40 countries have been lit pink to raise funds for breast cancer research and awareness of the disease.

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Nicole Kidman saved Hugh Jackman from a poisonous scorpion on the set of their new movie.

The pair are currently filming Baz Luhrmann's new movie 'Australia' in their home country and in one scene Nicole joins Hugh in a sleeping bag under the stars.

However, as the actress was about to join Hugh in the bag, she noticed he already had a far more dangerous sleeping companion.

An on-set source told the National Enquirer magazine: "Nicole gasped when Hugh opened the cover invitingly to reveal a poisonous scorpion creeping up his leg.

"She calmly told him not to move and squatted down, scooped the arachnid into her hat and walked over to the woods and released it.

"Everyone applauded but we did ask her why she hadn't just stomped on it. She said, 'I would never kill an animal. Every creature here has its purpose. This one just didn't belong in Hugh's bag!' "
