Peter Beagle in Austin

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 9:32 PM
So I'm an idiot, and missed the opportunity to see Peter Beagle and the Last Unicorn at the Alamo drafthouse on Wends (the show is sold out). Does anyone know if the Alamo has a waitlist? Would it be worth driving up there that night?

He's also going to be at BookPeople on Friday -- does BookPeople do tickets for signings, or is it just first come first serve?

Alamo Drafthouse Hobbit Feast

  • Nov. 30th, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Did anyone else go to the Lord of the Rings Hobbit Feast at the Alamo Drafthouse tonight? We went and had an awesome time right up until they announced that they wouldn't be showing the extended edition of The Return of the King because it wasn't available on 35 mm film and the DVD version would lessen the visual and audio quality. Maybe it's just me, but when I payed $100/ticket to see all three extended editions back-to-back, that's what I expected and was pretty peeved when that wasn't what I got. I can see their logic behind it to an extent, but I'm more of a Tolkien fan than a film snob, so the DVD would have been fine with me. Otherwise, the food was AWESOME (the afternoon tea course especially rocked my world) and the service was great . . . I just wish it had ended on a better note. I was hoping for a more complete experience and some bragging rights. "Yes, I saw all three extended editions of the Lord of the Rings back to back . . . in a movie theater." Now I'll probably never have that. *sigh*

Twilight premier - advice needed

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 12:03 PM
I'm taking a couple friends to the Twilight premier tonight at the Lakecreek Drafthouse. The show starts at 11:55p. What time do you think we should get in line, given the following:

the costume theme is "Vampire Prom" and yes, we are dressing accordingly.
the low for tonight is 40!
the Lakecreek Drafthouse isn't gonna be quite as crazy as, say, the Ritz...
yet most Twilight fans are rabid and ruthless when it comes to seeing rpattz...
yet so are we...

So, a hard balancing act. Being decidedly mortal, we don't want to freeze to death. Yet we would also like to get our money's worth. What would you do? Assuming you don't think Twilight is absolute trash, and you are interested in giving me useful advice: When do you think we ought to get there?

Thanks in advance for help. :)
who's goin?! who? who :D

and how BAD do you think the lines are going to be at the alamo south lamar for twilight on thus night at midnight? should i arrive an hour or two early? hahah.

edited to add:
so the day just turned to crap. im hungry. i dont know what I want. any suggestions on a good place (with a dish suggestion) south of ben white, west of 35, north of slaughter? or around 71/bee caves?

LotR Feast -- worth it?

  • Nov. 9th, 2008 at 2:23 PM
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to decide if I want to commit a huge chunk of time and money to the Alamo Lord of the Rings Feast, which entails a back-to-back viewing of all three extended films and a seven course meal.  Has anyone been to this before?  Is anyone planning to go?

Who asked about Rock Band a while go?

  • Oct. 28th, 2008 at 3:40 PM
Hi guys,
Someone posted some time ago asking what public places hold epic Rock Band competitions, now that it's replaced Guitar Hero in our Simulated Rock Band-hungry worlds.

That person and others will be happy to learn of the Alamo downtown's Rock Band 2 Championships, if you don't already:  http://www.originalalamo.com/Show.aspx?id=5182

In Search of a Midnight Kiss

  • Aug. 30th, 2008 at 9:59 AM
I don't normally promote this sort of thing, but I saw an amazing movie at Alamo Drafthouse South last night.

A friend of a friend made this movie and we were treated to a screening last night. AMAZING.

Very smart, witty, hip, sexy, hilarious - and touching. I fully recommend you guys take a chance to see this movie before they move it out. Right now it's scheduled to play through the week - but it may stay longer if it's a hit.

It's a great date movie - OR a great movie to see if you're into film making. The entire 6-7 person "crew" is from Austin - currently living in LA trying to make it big. Great shots of Austin, scenes inside of I <3 Video, etc. PLEASE GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

Does anyone have any extra tickets for the Master Pancake Theater showing of Jurassic Park this weekend? Either show would work.

Thanks,
Blake

Alamo tickets?

  • Aug. 2nd, 2008 at 2:06 PM
Anyone have extra tickets to see Mommie Dearest at the Alamo tomorrow? My Mom is in town and we really wanted to go but it's sold out. Don't let Mom go home without seeing the Joan Crawford drag competition!

Baby day at the Alamo.

  • Jul. 22nd, 2008 at 8:48 AM
I'm planning on taking my 7 week old daughter to the Alamo for baby day this afternoon to see Batman.

Can anyone give me any feedback on baby day? Is it really loud in the theater to the point where you can't hear the movie? Would I be better off just going to a regular showing of the movie and leaving her with a friend?

What's the best thing to order at Alamo Drafthouse (Village)? I've only been there once.
