Kind of an awkward question

  • Nov. 11th, 2008 at 2:21 PM
What stores (I'm thinking drugstores or Target/Walmart/whatever, but I'm open to suggestions) tend to have a good and hopefully inexpensive selection of lubes and more importantly, spermicides (especially foam)? Preferably easy to reach by bus, I don't have a car.

Thanks in advance!

ETA: It would help to know specific locations. For example, the Walgreens on 45th & Guadalupe doesn't stock spermicidal foam. If there's a location of a store that you know does, it would be very helpful.

I'm pretty sure you can find a decent selection at any grocery store. HEB usually stocks 'em right near the condoms.

Maybe some, but not any. If you can name a location that does have a good selection, that's the information I need.

Every HEB I've ever been to stocks this stuff. Hancock Center, E. 7th, Oltorf and Congress, Loyola and 183... I'm having trouble imagining an HEB at which one cannot purchase personal lubricant. :)

KY, yes. I'm looking for more of a selection.

uh
HEB, Randalls, CVS, Walgreens, a gas station, etc.

Does anyone know where I could buy some gum? Preferably of the peppermint variety. TIA

Re: uh
I was in Walgreens last night. Very limited selection of lube. No contraceptive foam. If all I was looking for was condoms and KY, I'd be set, but I need more choices than that.

What flavor?

Not interested in flavor so much as texture. KY's too runny and gets tacky too fast.

Like the other replies say, if you want the standard stuff, anywhere has them.

If you're sensitive or have an aversion, you'd probably be better off going to a specialty shop.

There are quite a few of them around town.

I know adult stores will have lubes, but I've never seen one that carries contraceptives. I don't have a car so it's kind of difficult for me to get around, so if it's at all possible to get it in one trip, it would make my life less difficult. That's why I asked for suggestions; it's possible that what I'd like best might not be doable, but if anyone knew of a place, it would help me out.

It is a very irresponsible adult store that does not carry condoms.

I've yet to find one that doesn't have a french tickler at the very least.

Condoms are easy to find. I am discovering foam isn't, and that's my preferred backup with condoms.

Also, most Planned Parenthood locations carry VCF (film, not foam), and most in Austin are on bus lines...

Thanks for the link. I might be going to a PP soonish to hopefully eliminate the need for a backup to condoms, if they can hook me up with something it'd be nice. I know the film is kind of expensive and it melts in hot weather, but it is getting cooler out.

I think you'd have a hard time melting it, by walking and busing around, in November. :) August, yes. Now? You're fine. And welcome.

What you should be looking for, then, is a silicon based lube... which is what KY Intrigue is.

Thank you for the suggestion, I didn't know that KY made a silicon-based lube now.

No problem. They don't exactly say what's in it, but that fact that it can be used in water without being degraded is a pretty good tell.

Any store with a pharmacy should have a decent selection (Target, HEB, CVS, Walgreens, Randalls, etc.)

If you’re looking for something specific rather than just a decent selection, then say so. If you want a bigger selection of stuff that isn’t run-of-the-mill, try Dreamers or Forbidden Fruit or any adult shop. But if you’re asking what your post implies, a general place with the vague idea of a “decent selection”, try any place with a pharmacy.

The Walgreens I usually go to (45th & Guadalupe) doesn't have spermicidal foam, which I am specifically looking for.

So, your question should be: Where can I find spermicidal foam?

And if that’s your question, I’d suggest HEB. I’ve seen it at several locations, but if you’re near campus I think the closest would be at Hancock center.

Er, I did specifically mention foam in my question.

Thanks for the recommendation, next time I can get to the Hancock HEB I will look.

I see a lot of answers from people who are trying to help, and a lot of responses from you being rude to those who are trying to help you because they’re not saying exactly what you want them to. If people aren’t answering your question to your liking, then you should change or clarify your question. Or, you know, be nice to those who are trying to help.

I don't think I've been rude at all, not even to [info]aspen. I've thanked everyone who's been helpful and clarified myself when needed.

i think that location really needs this stuff!

Exactly. I want my contraceptive choices! Bad enough the sponge went off the market... *sigh*

I'm not sure... it's stupid, I know, but I was a bit embarrassed to ask, and if I have to wait on an order anyway I might as well get it online.

Ha! That makes me think of that Seinfeld episode which, of course, is hilarious!
