guerilla reforesting on the cheap, anyone?

  • Aug. 26th, 2008 at 2:02 PM
From a local plant list:

We received a call from 4 Seasons Nursery in Willis (between Huntsville
and Houston). They said they had about 20 thousand 1 gallon pines and 3
thousand 1 gallon live oaks that they needed to get rid of within the
next two weeks. If they can't move them they will be destroyed. They're
asking 50 cents apiece for these trees. If anyone is interested please
contact Oliver at 936-856-3100 or 936-203-3417.

With cooler weather (hopefully!) coming next month it's a great time to
plant trees if you need them. And you can't beat the price!

Sounds like a long drive, but tempting...hey, I could start a holiday tree farm!

Ooh, ooh, I want a couple oak trees! Too bad they are so far away. Besides, I'm assuming they are looking for people to buy large quantities, rather than unloading them a tree or two at a time.

Isn't there a group in Austin called TreeFolks, or something like that? I think they are the ones that provide free trees to people who need them. Maybe they'd be interested in them. If they took them, they'd get planted around Austin neighborhoods at little to no cost to residents.

If anyone ends up bringing some or all of these trees and is selling them cheap, please let me know. I'll bring a bunch of family and friends and we'll all load up on baby trees!
