banking and radio stations

  • Jun. 17th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
I am going to need a bank! Preferably one with lots of ATMS near the UT campus, but also accessible in Hyde Park. Also, should allow for no minimum banking preferrably. Any recs? I do most of my banking via ATM now.

Who do I tune into for good alternative music? Tori Amos, Dresden Dolls, Rilo Kiley, Death cab etc?

UFCU was good for me until they started charging me fees for not using my account, even though there was money in it. I think it's a ridiculous policy.

they have a "internet" checking account. where you get it totally free but, it limits your teller transactions to 2 a month. personally, i don't have a problem using the night deposit. if you don't, i'd go with that. b/c i don't get charged anything a month and no minimum anythings.

that seems totally absurd! when i moved here from SA i had a bank acct that stayed open for a while because of having to close the account in person. anyway, it had under $100 in the account and they never charged me a single penny for it being inactive for nearly a year!

I still have a credit union account in another state that I probably haven't been actively adding or withdrawing money from in about 10 years. I still earn money on that account (not much, admittedly), and I haven't once been charged for not using it!

Real banks do this too.
I had a nearly empty account that I was using just to cash checks at Compass, and the bank started pulling money out of it to "charge" me for not using the account, until the fees they were pulling out started bouncing and I "owed" them money.
I told them to take a hike, only not so kindly, and went to UFCU.

sirius radio. no commercials and so much variety that you'd hear the above mentioned bands on more than one station and then some. i've been a subscriber for 3 years and it is worth every penny.

Most of the credit unions in Austin have entered into a deal where they let the other Austin credit unions' members use their ATMs for no additional charge. So for ATM banking, credit unions are really the way to go.

I personally use United Heritage Credit Union and have had nothing but positive stuff to say about them over the course of the decade or so I have been with them.

UFCU is probably the best choice for what you describe, but Compass is a great bank and will reimburse you any ATM fees that any other banks charge you, give you free checking, and there's no minimum on the account.

Oh, and they'll give me a $50 gift card if you say that I referred you, so if you do go with them, please let me know so I can get that set up. (But that's not why I'm recommending them. They are a really awesome bank -- free checks, free bill pay, free ATM use, reimbursing of ATM fees, OPEN ON BANK HOLIDAYS.)

I've been happy with Bank of America, actually, so far. They have certain accounts for students, I believe, that allow you to have $0 in your account and not be penalized for it, etc..

Hey and if you sign up you should say I referred you and we both get $25 or something :D

I agree UFCU is the way to go. I actually work for this Credit Union and know first hand how much member relationships mean to them.

Unfortunately, we do have to charge the inactivity fee to lower costs, so we can offer our members competitive loan/deposit rates. Inactive accounts (no activity for 9+ months) are actually really expensive to maintain. The fee is really easy to avoid though.

imzadi---Perhaps I can restore your faith in UFCU? I'll send you my information if you want to contact me.

Radio, ...I guess if you're looking for a generic alt station, tune into 101.5 (101X) because you probably won't hear a lot of the more mainstream things on 91.7 (whether it's KVRX or KOOP at the time)

Although I'm an ipod and car stereo fiend, there was a time when I had nothing to listen to but the radio, and I couldn't stand the stupid alternative stations so I tuned into Jammin' 105.9 because they play all the retarded stuff from the 80s 90s and the present. Seriously, if I can't hear rick astley I want nothing to do with it.
