Car Chase in N. Austin last night?

  • May. 8th, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Anyone know what happened there?  I saw dozens of cops going in EVERY direction, passed by the crash and heard on the radio that the wreck and resulting traffic jam was the end result of the car chase.  A search of today's local news sources turned up NADA!  Anyone gotta clue?

Unfortunately I don't have any info, but what time was it? I saw cops flying up north I-35 in the Rundberg area a little after 10 PM.

It was during rush hour, right about 5pm. I first saw the cops (never did see the car) rushing towards Samsung on Parmer, then almost immediately saw them rushing back and literally going in three different directions at one intersection as a helicopter circled overhead. The wreck occured minutes later at Parmer & I-35. There were two Fire Trucks and traffic was being diverted off the northbound feeder. As we passed, my husband said he saw an SUV that was pretty banged up, but nothing else.

I did not see the crash but I did get stuck in the resulting traffic from people avoiding the area. :/

We are at war with Eurasia. We have always been at war with Eurasia?

srsly though, that's kind of odd.

Don't be ridiculous.

We are at war with Oceania. We have always been at war with Oceania.

However, I have no information about that except what I heard on the traffic report, that it was a police chase that ended in a crash.

All those cop cars were a little west on Parmer right after Lamar by the new Scofield condos they are building. I saw a white car with a broken windshield but that was all I could see on the way by. There were about 8 cop cars out there.

They just reported on it on KEYETV.

Two people are behind bars after a wild chase through the streets of Austin Wednesday evening.

Police say Jeffrey Cook and his ex-girlfriend Laura Sawyer led them on a pursuit through North Austin.

Police were trying to serve Cook with a federal warrant for drugs and weapons. They spotted him leaving his house and tried to stop him on Interstate 35 when the chase started.

Cook ran from police and held another woman against her will after busting into her apartment until Sawyer could arrive.

They raced down Lamar Boulevard and Parmer Lane, where Sawyer’s car crashed into a parked 18-wheeler and a car. That driver was sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police stopped the couple at Parmer and Interstate 35 and arrested them.

“No matter how good a job the supervisor does making the decision whether to terminate that pursuit or not, the pursuit is dangerous and bad things can happen and we recognize that. Luckily, in this case the two collisions that occurred were relatively minor,” Phil Crochett with APD said.

Cook faces evading arrest, unlawful restraint and aggravated robbery charges. Sawyer is charged with evading arrest, hindering apprehension and failure to stop and render aid. Neither has posted bond.
