long island ice tea dammit!

  • Jan. 31st, 2008 at 8:38 PM
In the middle of Nowhere, Indiana, was a place called Bdubs that served the bestest, tallest, most delicious and most drunkening long island iced tea. The closest Bdubs is pretty far, so I'll take recommendations on the place that serves the best long island in town. Please!

Also, it's cold outside and I'm wondering: is there a place that makes yummy warm alcohol-containing beverages? Those seem harder to make because the alcohol maybe dissipates but I'm no expert :)

Opal Divine's has several hot drinks on the menu during the cold time of year (such as it gets in Austin).

I've never had a decent Long Island-but then I like to taste my liquor. You might try Club Deville. They make their own sour mix and that would be half the equation solved.

Thank you kindly! Never been, but it looks like tonight it's Opal Divine's, just down the road.

I was going to say Opal's too!

I hope you had some good strong warm drinks last night :]

i had a long island at casino el camino a few years ago and it was so strong i could barely drink it. i had a decent one at cain and abel's but i hate that place so i don't really recommend it.

also, i remember seeing some yummy warm alcoholic beverages on the menu at the brentwood tavern a while back.

I haven't gone to Casino El Camino or Brentwood, good excuses to try both :)

Ooh, also, never had one there but I've never had a bad mixed drink there (and have had many many good ones, including KILLER bloody marys) -- the Jackalope, on Sixth. I bet someone could make you a fabulous L.I. iced tea there.

the bloody marys at the jackalope are almost always delish, but i was there on a saturday night and my gf got a "bloody mary" that was soda water, vodka, worcestire and a splash of tomato juice. it was absolutely horrid. who makes a bloody mary that is yellowish/clear and calls it good?

but normally, yes, very tasty.

I think where you get a long island isn't near as important as who actually makes it for you. The strength and even the recipe will probably vary from bartender to bartender.

Very good point, I guess I should be looking for a reputable bar with decent bartenders.

Perhaps you are looking for good atmosphere while you drink but I've had great luck/fun becoming my own bartender at home. My fiancee bought me a book of 750+ drink recipes, we stocked up on just about everything I could get my hands on (bottles all over the place, not enough room ugh) and I started practicing.

I now make my own favorite vodka martini and margaritas (nothing too hard but using fresh limes makes a huge difference).

A friend became a bartender and had all these goodies at her house, always ready to make the best anything. Good point: I need to invest and start making stuff the way I like it at home. Plus then I'll learn what I like and don't for when I do go out.
