How about Kerrville?

  • Nov. 11th, 2007 at 11:25 AM
I've been to Fredericksburg, so what about Kerrville? I feel the need to mingle amongst the Kerrverts. Where to stay, what to do while there? Any interesting festivals or things along those lines coming up in the next month or two?

As usual, thanks for your kind advice.....

The only cool thing in Kerrville is the folk festival. That's not happening until late May - early June.

Having lived there for an unfortunate 10 months (by way of bad decision making), I can confidently say that Kerrville sucks if you're looking for stuff to do. The town itself is not enjoyable...perhaps a little scenic, but you can get the same thing here.

Unlike Fredericksburg, Kerrville does not offer a strip of cool stores or breweries, or anything. The highlight of the town was a Hasting's. :P Maybe it's changed since I live there though.

But to your question...there was a nice hotel called The Y (or something similar).

Hmmmm....thanks for an alternate viewpoint. I've heard several people talk so well about Kerrville, I thought it might be similar to Fredericksburg. I guess not?

Kerrverts are not people from Kerrville. They are aficionados of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

That being said, if you like straight on America, the town of Kerrville is a really cool place. I like Gibson's, an amazing old-style hardware store (think Breed and Co., or Callahan's). To get there, turn right on 27 as you are coming from the highway.

For places to stay, both the Motel 6 and the Comfort Inn and Suites are good. The Motel 6 is cheaper, but the Comfort Inn has a nice indoor swimming pool.

If you go about fifteen miles past Kerrville on Highway 16, you get to the Medina River. It's beautiful and great to swim in. (see http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=medina&w=86497720%40N00).

I hope you do. It's a nice town.

I'm going to spend a weekend there soon myself. I want to get some Maple and apple trees. My friend has some stuff to do there too. We both want to go to Gibsons and swim at the Comfort Inn.

You could also consider going to the Festival next May-June if you're up for it. http://www.kerrville-music.com/.

Went to Kerrville...
... a couple weeks ago.

My BF is very into fine furniture making, so we went to the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center and saw the "Furniture as Art" exhibit (I'm not sure exactly what it was called, but something like that). It was beautiful and made me want to have a huge disposible income. It's free, although they ask in a very nice way for a donation.

Also, the Kerr County Fair is running but I'm not sure when it stops.

We had a wonderful time in Kerrville, by the way. We had a yummy lunch, which we ate outside at a corner cafe. It looked like there were lots of great places to eat, BTW. We only stayed the morning and afternoon, but for that amount of time, it was great!

If you are looking for a huge bar with a giant yellow tractor out front where you will more than likely get into a fight with some serious country folk, don't pass up "Neighbors" .... Back in the day if you could see over the bar and had cash, you were good to go.

Good times, good times.
