samosas

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 5:20 AM

I'm in central Austin and was just wondering where you go for good samosas?  I'd prefer somewhere I can have the option of getting it to go.  Thanks.

Voting?

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 9:00 AM
Okay, I didn't register in time for the deadline to vote in the primary.

But I was registered to vote in the last election.
Is there somewhere I can go or call to find out if I'm still registered?

Do NOT use Semper Fi Movers

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 11:14 AM

I scheduled a move with Semper Fi a month ago for a move today. I called back to confirm the move and was told it was scheduled. They NEVER SHOWED UP.

When I called the company, I was told by Jason that he'd work something out and call me back and that my moving reservation was never put in the book. No one has called back since that and the move was scheduled for 9am this morning.

Luckily, I was able to find another mover, but please, if you need a good moving company, DO NOT USE Semper Fi. Completely unprofessional and they'll leave you with nothing but all your boxes.

Go see "Overwhelming Underdogs"

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 12:27 PM
My friend Joe Hartman has a one-man show at Arts on Real called "Overwhelming Underdogs"; it opened last weekend, and plays this weekend through March 16th. In the production, Joe plays a variety of characters through a series of funny and dramatic scenes. The first act is a series of really funny and sometimes touching sketches, while the second act is a self-contained 1950's style melodrama about a rising-then-falling star with some great singing.

If you're a fan of "The Kids in the Hall" or "Little Britain", you'll find a very similar feel here. I saw it on opening night with friends, and we all really enjoyed it.

Half-price tickets are available for the show at https://www.texasperforms.com/, and there are performances on Friday evening, Saturday evening, and Sunday matinée.

I found a dog; Bongo

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 1:06 PM
I live near Riverside and Ben White and a stray dog came running into my backyard looking very lost. He's male, black short-hair, thin build, his collar sez 'Bongo'. He's got puppy paws and shiny white teeth, so he must be only 4-8 months old. He knows how to sit for a treat.
I called the number on his collar, but no answer. The outgoing message was a young-sounding woman speaking Spanish; so if you know this Bongo or his Mommy, please comment me so we can get him home.

Vehicle Title

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Long story, but I have a motorcycle title that was never transfered. It's been at least 5 years since then, but I want to get legal now. I've heard there are businesses that will do the work for you. If this is true, who are they and are they worth it?

Caucusing?

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 4:57 PM
So what is this caucus thing like?  Our local polling place is right across the street, so we'd like to check it out.  But a preview would be helpful.  What do you do when you arrive?  How long do you have to stay?  What actually goes on?

And in terms of policy, how does this whole "voting twice" thing work?

Jewelry repair rec

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 5:26 PM
Ngoc Tran Jewelers in the Chinatown shopping center do an excellent job for a reasonable price. I've taken four different things there to be repaired and been pleased with each one. (And the repairs are invisible, which is the best part.) They are on the right side as you drive in, next to Lily's Sandwich Shop and the Short and Sweet Cafe--and they have amazing hours.

We've been finding 3-5" wide holes in our yard, apparently a burrow of some kind.  Whatever is in there has eaten through the roots of an adjacent mango sapling.

Any idea what this might be and how to get rid of it humanely?
