temp agencies

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 12:56 AM
Do you all have any recommendations for temp agencies in Austin?  I'm looking for both full and part time work, and would love any good and/or bad stories you have about working with agencies.  South Austin recs would be especially preferred, but city wide is fantastic too.

Do you have a Sam's card or a Costco card? both?
Which is better?
How many people are you shopping for?

At Last, an Honest Mechanic

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 10:06 AM
I know that many folks are often on the lookout for a good, honest, reasonably-priced mechanic. Well, I may have finally found one. Yes, it's a good review here on austincommunity! I'll post the pertinent info below, and then a longer review after that, behind a cut.

Body Shop Rec

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Since [info]astraether posted about a good, honest mechanic, I thought I'd post a recommendation for a body shop we use.

The driver's side of my car got pretty well smushed by a moving van a few weeks ago. We got several estimates before going with Longhorn Collision Center on South Lamar (http://longhorncollision.com/).

In a nutshell, they did an awesome job. There's a difference between well-patched and can't-tell-there-was-a-dent. The paint's a perfect match -- in bright sunlight you still can't see where old meets new or tell the difference.

They stayed in constant communication, they didn't fix anything without checking with us first (they also handled some repairs to the steering framework), and they stayed reasonably priced.

They also gave us an extremely detailed breakdown of costs and labor to present to the van's insurance company, and they took digital photos (we had forgotten to, how stupid!) for us.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Since my niece just backed her mom's car into my husband's car...well, we're using them again.

Bug People

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 11:17 AM
I need a good bug sprayer so that the carpenter ants that are invading my house will go away. I figure I need a good once-around the house and the problem will be solved, but I'd like it to be done well.

Anyone have any good local peeps that can come up NorthSide? Environmentally safe would be nice, too.

local FAST screenprinters

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 3:09 PM
Can anyone recommend a local screen shop that could do some FAST turnaround on shirts (2 weeks?). Looking to get 200 or so printed up.

Anyone have any old strands of (working) christmas lights they are willing to part with? I need them by Sunday, but am having a hard time locating them in stores or in my garage.

Has anyone else have a person they don't know calling them for months around 7 to 8 pm?

We don't have a home phone but the number shows up on our TV, the caller ID says "Randall Vick". Googling his number just gives us an address.

When my husband tries to call them back there's no answer or answering machine.
I thought it might have been the newspaper, who have harassed me non-stop since I canceled my subscription, but they seem to only call my cell phone.

Is this Randall Vick guy calling anyone else?
Can anyone recommend a massage therapist who does myofascial release in or near Central Austin?

My great therapist is moving further North and it's already challenging to make the drive.
Those of you in Round Rock are lucky to be getting Eric Webb at Hands On Physical Therapy (310-1928). He's even billable on health insurance plans now.

But it would be nice not to have to drive a long way to get rid of runner's knee pain, etc.

Thanks!
Does anyone have any opinions on the local Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai dealerships or Carmax? I'm going to be buying a car soon and I'd like to find out if there are any dealerships I should avoid all together or those that some of you have been very happy with.

Actually, I may buy a used car, so other types of dealerships may work, if they have recent (2006-2008) Toyota Corollas, Honda Civics, or Hyundai Sonatas/Elantras in stock.

Thanks :)

Hill Country Bed and Breakfast

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Do any of you - from personal experience - have any recommendations for Bed and Breakfasts in the Texas Hill Country? We'd like a place within 3 hours driving from Austin. We're thinking leaving a Friday night and staying Friday and Saturday night. We want a really nice outdoor atmosphere with patios and oak trees and a firepit or something. A jacuzzi would be really nice.

Anyone been to: the Lamb's Rest Inn? (http://www.lambsrestinn.com/index.php)
It looked nice.

Advice for a Friday-Saturday B&B getaway?

And my advice for a great B&B in the city: Carrington's Bluff
