Does anybody know if it's possible to renew a Travis county vehicle registration on a Saturday? Apparently the "official" tax offices are closed on weekends, but I know that in some counties you can renew your registration at places like HEB. Does anybody know if that's also the case here in Travis county? I'm a few days late, so it won't allow me to register online.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Had an accident at the house and 2 feet of an antique table that holds a 100+ slab of round marble broke!
If you know of anyone out there that can repair the damage by replacing the 2 feet and staining the wood to match the rest of the wood work, or even REPLACE the entire piece to hold the slab of marble, I will be forever happy!
Pics below the cut to show the damage and what the repairs need to be.
Like I said, if the damage cannot be repaired (I know glue wont help this and replacing the feet is the only option), I will definitely explore replacing the entire piece for something that can hold the humongo slab of marble. This was my granddaddy's stuff and I would like to keep it around if possible.

I need to get my haircut, but I can't afford $50 anymore. Can anyone recommend a good place for a $20 haircut?
Just a reminder that our annual Cake Show is coming up next weekend on the 23th-24th. It will be held at the Texas Star Meeting and Event Center. We are still accepting entries and you can fill out the entry forms on our website.
Our guest celebs this year will be Bronwen Weber and Nick Lodge of Food Network fame as well as Earlene Moore, Steven Stellingwerf and Autumn Carpenter.
There will be demonstrations, on-site competitions (like Food Network Challenges) and lots of specialty sugar art vendors.
Cost to attend the show is just $5 (free to competitors) and is free for children 16 and under and $2 on Sunday. Sunday will be cake viewing only.
Sunday there will be also be a Showcase Demonstration with all our guest celebrities. Each celeb will present for an hour on one of their techniques. It's a day long event that will include lunch and runs $90. You can also sign up at our website for that. Classes with these celebs run a few hundred bucks so this is a good value.
Check out our website for more details.
Right now Oklahoma is the biggest cake show in the US. We want to take that title away some day. :-)

Hey, me and my ladyfriend are two northerners looking for a place this summer after our elaborate relocation scheme goes down. No experience down here, so I've been scouring Rent.com and ApartmentRatings.com, hoping to find good matches These are a few of the apartments that seem to have a good combination of rent and rating:
Anyone familiar with these places? It'll go down sometime this summer, depending on housing, job hunt and sheer convenience. If you know of or have a place yourself (we're looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom for somewhere between $500 and $700) then please let me know. We'll take an apartment or a house, but probably prefer an apartment. Not too worried about location but want to be close to bus lines as we will probably be sharing a car, a car that I will probably be driving. Also, something safe-- one of us is a cute, small girl and the other is a harmless, doughy man-child. Would prefer not to get broken into, but not super stressed out-- the only valuables we have are a laptop, a Wii and OUR LOVE.
Also, any agents who are at least somewhat credible?

So I've had the most sucka** experience with AT&T Yahoo!'s dry-loop DSL customer service, and I want a new provider. I had Road Runner before, but their actual service wasn't so hot, so I'm looking to see what success y'all have had with other providers.
I do not have a land line.
I do not watch TV.
I simply want a good, reliable Internet connection that I can pay without making 5 effin phone calls each month. Bonus if I can pay online!

My wife and I are moving to Austin from Seattle next month, and we're having some issues finding a place to live. I guess we're just accustomed to Craigslist being a little more useful than it appears to be in Austin.
The problem is that all the rental listings on CL are overrun by real estate agents who refuse to list the addresses of the properties they're trying to lease. Some of them don't even provide email addresses. Apparently these kids are all terrified that we'll go rent directly from the landlords and they won't get their commission.
But this makes it impossible for me to search Google Maps for nearby coffee, groceries, and bars. All important things! One leasing agent I talked to refused to provide an address unless we set up an appointment first. Like, what? My wife is planning to fly down there on the 1st to look at places, but we're having a tough time even lining that up thanks to these shenanigans.
How do you folks handle this? Do you just give your email address and living space requirements to every little apartment guru/expert/specialist/hunter in town, wait, and hope? Do you rent exclusively from friends of friends (of friends)? Do you have a favorite agent you go through every time you need a new place?
Is Craigslist just worthless in Austin? Should we be looking at a different online resource?
(Lastly, if you know of a cute (perhaps even vintage aka old!) rental opening up around the beginning or middle of March in a neighborhood that's within walking distance to decent coffee, groceries, restaurants, and drinking establishments, will allow a cat and a small dog, totally email me! Address is in my profile.)

So my friend has a 4 year old neutered chow/pitbull mix who has some serious issues. He's not aggressive 24/7, but he does periodically have episodes where he will flip out and bite people (his owner, mostly; she's very good about keeping him away from those who have not been made fully aware of what he's like). He has received professional training which helped him out somewhat, but he's still pretty high-strung. He's also blind in one eye and easily overstimulated, which doesn't help.
My friend had encountered two problems; one, she cannot find a vet that will treat an aggressive dog. He has had bad reactions to sedatives in the past (i.e. they just made his behavior worse), although she doesn't recall exactly what kind they used. Does anybody know of a vet locally that will work with aggressive/fearful animals? She is willing to go outside of Austin if necessary. He is not ill or injured, but hasn't had a checkup in a while. Secondly, she realizes that euthanasia is inevitable if his issues escalate. Are there any good behaviorists around who can work with him, or at least give advice? She's very devoted to him and willing to do a lot, although money is a concern. I think at this point even a one time assessment would help if they can give her pointers on how to better handle him.

My desktop has finally gone kaput.
Does anyone know of a reliable custom computer genius that is open to adding old to the new? I want to put in two of my old hard drives into the new computer.

So while I'm pretty well versed with the 'puters, when it comes to actual mechanical moving parts (and internal combustion engines), I'm embarrassingly un-literate...
Can anyone suggest/refer a good mechanic from which I can get a second estimate (already got my first earlier this week but I don't trust it)... preferably one who can take a quick look at my suspension/alignment and give me the inside low-down goods on the issue (or possibly non-issue) with my car?
