Off during SXSW? Wanna make big bucks (and I'm not kidding at all here) working a friday or saturday night during it wearing an embarrassing costume? Leave me a message here (we only need 2 people so be quick). Seriously. If I wasn't working, I'd do it myself. And for a hint of what you're promoting...

Does anybody know a store that sells yard beer glasses? You know... the really tall, skinny ones that hold a couple of beers. Location does not matter.

Come see The Jumper during SXSW!

contractor for deck work/screen porch?

  • Mar. 9th, 2006 at 11:34 AM
We are looking to have some work done on our deck, either getting a roof put over it or screening it in. Anyone got recommendations for a contractor for this kind of work? They'd be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Yesterday while running in my neighborhood, I noticed a bike cop riding around. Soon after that, I saw a police helipcopter, then a swarm of cop cars. Then as I rounded Dancy St, there was a guy with a video camera, and a cop stopping traffic. Anyone know what was going on?
Okay folks - here's a weird news story (that oddly enough turned up on Drudgereport) about something you need to keep your eyes peeled for this weekend. Cops to Reward good drivers...by pulling them over.

That's right. Deputy Taylor says they're not trying to scare anyone. Deputies will simply wave
to good drivers and politely ask them to pull over to the side.
Why? They want to give you Round Rock Express tickets. And say thank you.

God, our cops are just weird. Of course, the comedian in me wants to ask "How bad can the Express attendence be if they've gotta have cops pull people over to go?" Just a friendly heads up for your weekend - watch out for waving cops.
We will be moving to Austin sometime in early May. The DC area has abused us enough so we're selling our house and heading out there whether we have jobs or not. Good riddance! However, I would like to get a job as quickly as I can once I get there.

So what I would like to know is the names of Austin companies and recruiters (headhunters) in my job field that I can hit up. Dell, AMD, and IBM are the obvious ones... I think I can find those on my own, thank you very much ;-)

I do network security at the moment for a government contractor. I have over 15 years of experience in telecommunications and computer networking. I would like to stay in the security field (vulnerability testing, general network security) but anything in the computer networking field will get me started.

I will, however, do just about anything as long as it doesn't involve a llama and 50' of garden hose or Amway. I do love networking, security and other geek stuff, but I'm also open to other opportunities and I've been told that I'm a pretty smart fellow and I still have all my finger and toes.

Also! If you know someone or are someone important... or sleep with someone or know someone who sleeps with someone important... or if you're just curious about the kind of nere 'do well that's coming your way... I can email you a copy of my resume. You can reach me here --> 777 [en] io [punto] com.

Thanks for your support, and maybe I'll see you at Opal D's or any of the other local hot spots some night!

Mk.

Itsybitsy teensyweensy

But not a bikini.

Does anyone know where to find, or even what to call, itty bitty toothpick-sized "dolls" - complete with faces, scraps of clothing and hair - that one can use as mourners and other figures in Resurrection Eggs? I've googled for "miniature dolls" and variations thereon, dug around in websites purveyors of various Christian education materials, scoured the aisles at Hobby Lobby and Michaels; no luck, no luck, and we're supposed to start building these eggs next week, I think.

At this point I'll pay an exhorbitant fee to expedite shipping.

Help?

Those of you who know me: these are for school.

Does anyone have any experience changing out pick-ups in guitars? I ordered some new pick-ups for my telecaster, and I don't feel confident enough to do the job myself. I'd really rather not pay a tech to do it, and would like to learn how to make the swap

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

Bat Cruises?

  • Mar. 9th, 2006 at 7:39 PM
My sister's family is going to be here in April, and I was thinking about doing a bat cruise. Have you ever done one? Lone Star Riverboat or Capital Cruises? (They are both $8/person.) Is it more pleasant than sitting on the lawn? Can you see the bats better? Would you do it again?

Gubernatorial petitions start today

  • Mar. 9th, 2006 at 8:39 PM
If you want to sign the petition to get an independent candidate (Friedman or Strayhorn-McClellan-Rylander-Nahasapeemapetilon) on the ballot for the 2006 election, it starts today:
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/03/9petitions.html

Worth noting is the FAQ at the bottom:
Who can sign the petitions?

Any registered voter who did not participate in Tuesday's primaries.

Can you sign a petition for a gubernatorial candidate and also vote in next month's party runoffs for other positions?

No, participating in any runoff disqualifies voters from signing petitions.

Can you sign petitions for both Strayhorn and Friedman?

No, only the first petition you sign will count.

Where can you sign a petition?

Both campaigns plan to collect signatures outside stores, restaurants and malls and at public events. For more information, go to www.kinkyfriedman.com/vote or www.carolestrayhorn.com/petitionform.aspx.

If you sign a petition, can you still vote for any candidate in November?

Yes.
