Does anyone know of quality martial arts instruction in Austin that doesn't run at least $80 per month? I'd love to start taking martial arts, but I just don't have that kind of cash to devote to the enterprise. My dad and sister only pay $35 per month in Oklahoma, and I was hoping from something close to that here. Am I dreaming?

Being fairly new to Austin, I am still learning my way around and what is here.
Anyone have suggestions for non- mainstream date places? Looking for the more creative or fun stuff, not dinner and a movie. The Chucky Cheese type idea, but not quite SO cheesy. Fun, cool, different, that sort of thing.

Sadly, I must say goodbye to my dear friend Tivo. We've gone through some great times together. Six Feet Under, the Simpsons, all those Kids in the Hall reruns that Comedy Central occasionally shows late at night...
But all things must pass and I am selling my Tivo.

Recommendations for a spa/hairsalon that will do my makeup, hair and a manicure for a special occasion?
Can anyone recommend a place to get a bikini wax that is not too expensive?
Thanks in advance.

Has anyone attended, or is planning on attending this year's Burning Flipside event? I have long been curious about flipside, for several reasons, and perhaps someone out in lj land can help enlighten me.
1) I have seen pics from past events, and it would seem body painting would be a welcome addition to the event - are there merchants selling goods and services there - or is it all just a free for all?
2) If you have gone previously - what were your impressions?
3) Is it worth $70 a ticket?
any insight is appreciated, cheers ;)

Hi everybody. I'm a newcomer to Austin and my job won't start until Feb.1. I am really lookig for something to do till then. I know Austin is full of opportunities in the arts or in activism. I'm looking for something free or that I might even get paid for. I can't afford to join an art class or yoga... any suggestions?
On behalf of a co-worker:
Free Pit Bull puppy to a good home.
Below is a picture of a sweet little guy that found his way to my house today.
I would guess him to be about 3-4 months old and probably weighs about 15-20 pounds.
Let me know if you are interested and we can arrange a meeting.
I have more photos if you would like to see more of him.
Thanks,
Shelly

Thursday nite, come out and get happy with the Invincible Czars....
we'll be playing happy hour at Beerland from 7-9 PM, every Thursday in January.
We're debuting tons of new material, a slew of new-to-us covers, and even some new arrangements of old tunes.
It's like a musical spring cleaning, in wintertime...
and the drinks are cheap, so what have you got to lose?

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before and could offer some advice...
Our apartment complex requires us to give them money orders each month to pay for rent. My husband and I dropped ours off in the slot on Saturday. I found out today that apparently they never received the envelope with the money order in it. We are absolutely positive that we turned it in. I can't find the receipt for it and the only proof I have of buying the money order is our bank statement showing the transaction....however this isn't good enough proof for our landlord. They informed us that we will have to be out of our apartment by Thursday.
My questions are:
1. The normal policy is that, if you break a lease early on your own terms, you must pay rent for the remaining months left in the lease. Does this rule still apply if you are forced to leave?
2. I feel like there must be something legally that we can do...yet I don't know what the next step would be, or ifthis would even be worth the effort.
3. What happens after you are evicted? I know that it goes on your renter's history report....do they do anything else after that?
4. In california where we are from, they must give you a week's notice before eviction. They are giving us two days...is that okay in Texas?
Our apartment complex management has been shady since the day we moved in and we have ignored it. However, this time it is tough because we just took out almost a thousand dollars in a money order and now it has somehow "disappeared".
I don't know what to do. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there,
Dropping by to let ya'll know about a great show Friday night at the Parish - That1Guy, who is opening for Drums and Tuba (a local band). Whether you love D&T or not, you really need to check out That1Guy. He is a classically trained bassist and took steel pipe, some bass strings, a boot, and other accoutrements and has made some AWESOME music! He is truly talented and worth the price of admission - $10 in advance, $12 at the door (according to the Parish's website).
Come give him a try. If you are in any way *remotely* interested in eclectic, GOOD music, you want to see That1Guy!!
Thanks!

If you or someone you know has a gently used portable dishwasher (full size or 3/4 size), let me know. I am looking to buy a new one, but I'd prefer used. Craigslist has no portable dishwasher love right now, sadly.

My daily agenda consists of going to school and getting on the
computer. I have too much time on my hands, and I think that it would
be a good idea to do something worth it. A friend of mine are
interesting in volunteering... as in helping people or animals or
something. We have no idea where to look for information or who to ask.
Where could two 13 & 14 year old girls volunteer?
Thanks,
Kaylee
